Social Theory in the Artroom
Study the art of the Cro-Magnons using the caves
of Lascaux and Altamira.
Art Project: Create a cave art
painting.
Materials:
Red, Yellow, Orange, Brown & Black
Tempera
2 Whole pieces of sheet rock-divided
1 yard of fake fur-divided
Burnt Sienna Acrylic
Matte Medium
Brushes
Trays for Paint
Instructions:
Students will divide into groups of two. Have
students agree to a topic and draw a sketch. Any student not in a
group will have a smaller piece of sheet rock. Students will then
remove one side of the paper to expose the plaster. The remaining
paper on that side can be dampened, then rubbed, while wet, with a
paper towel. If the plaster becomes cracked, it can easily be glued
together with Elmer's. Using earth type colors, students can apply
paint to plaster with fingers or fake fur pads. After drying for a
day, students will seal sheet rock with matte medium mixed with a
small amount of Burnt Sienna.
