George Gibson Addison

George Gibson Addison in his later years on Manitoulin Island.  When they first emigrated to Canada he and his family lived in Norwich for the first few years.  Elizabeth (George's wife) died in 1879.  He and his two eldest boys moved up to Manitoulin Island in 1881 and settled in Robinson Township (Silver Water) and started farming.  The other children lived with relatives and in foster homes.  It is said that when George Gibson's eldest son William died he walked the shores for over a year searching for his body but it was never found.  A second son, Richard, was drowned when the frieghter Jones capsized coming from Owen Sound to Manitoulin Island in 1906.
George Gibson died on June 25, 1921 and is buried in the Silver Lake Cemetery, in Silver Water on Manitoulin Island.
