Let me remind you that the writer of this column is a lay Christian who pays for and writes for the express purpose of giving his views and/or opinions on a variety of subjects such as American history, American government and Christianity , all of which have occupied his mind since he was a very young teenage boy.

Why I was born and raised within a few miles of the historical beginnings of this God blessed America, in which I live and love, and within a few miles of the greatest battlefields and towns of the conclusions of the Great American Revolution (Yorktown, Va. ) and the great and horrific War Between the States (Appomattox, Va.) I know not- only God knows.

What has occupied and plagued my mind for many years is the fact that God Almighty, the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth, has through His written Word commanded me not to kill my neighbor; He gave no exceptions. Further, He also through the writings of Paul and Peter taught me to honor and respect those rulers that He had ordained over me, lest I be judged.

How come George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry, Alexander Hamilton and a host of others (all God's children) can kill a jillion patriotic law abiding British Redcoats (also all God's children), dishonor and overthrow King George III, ordained of God, and still to this very day be considered good God loving, honorable Christian men and the greatest of American heroes?

How come Robert E. Lee, Jeb Stuart, Stonewall Jackson and a host of others (all God's children) can kill a jillion patriotic, law abiding, Yankee young men (also all God's children) and attempt to deny and withdraw from the government of the United States of America, ordained of God (or was it?) and still be considered good, God loving, honorable Christian men and great American heroes?
