In those days there were many canals with numerous names such as Klong Lord. They served as waterways as well as defensive purposes.

The King was most gifted in letters, poetry, and drama which gave rise to a number of great poets.

In the families, the elder boys named Boonlue, Chuen and Jang held much promise for the future. The girls called Choi, Ploy, and Manee all studied dilligently.

Their mother taught the girls necessary domestic works including needlework and cookery.

In the evening by riverside, boats often brought over friends to visit. They were always greeted and welcomed by the hosts.

Outside by the flower-stands the fragrance of jasmine and rose was everywhere. The melodious sound of music could be heard as children practised their musical instruments.

The head of both families served in the military, fought many battles, and held high ranks. They encouraged their children to advance in their careers by introducing them to serve in the court.

In their spare time,  the young lads practiced the art of self-defense using swords and spears. They also encouraged their friends to join in these games.

At dawn, the girls waited by the riverside to the Buddhist monks who paddled by everyday.

In those days, the water in the river was as clean as rain drops nurturing plants and all living creatures. Canals served as transport system and defence.

The beautiful canals around Bangkok gave the city its other well-known name of Venice of the East. Some famous canals were Maha Naga, Bang Lamphu Lang, Bang Lamphu Bon.

The boys Jang, Chuen and Boonlue played boat music when water from the north flooded the canals. The Maha Naga Canal was full of fun and activities.

The reign of King Phra Buddha Loetla Naphalai was regarded as the Golden Age of Thai literature Khon drama written by the King was performed rtgularly in the court.

People mourned when the King died after sixteen years on the throne. His son and successor became King Phra Nangklao (King Rama III).
