It is look like a brown long bean which come from big tree , small leaves and come in brunch.  

Young tamarind are fresh and green in colour.  They are used in salad and eaten along with dipping sauce.  It will be turn to brown colour when it is ripe and the shell need to be removed.  The flesh dark brown tamarind can be add hot water and used the juice for cooking and making drink.  It's containing many the black stone inside the flesh and it is not eaten.

They are 2 types of tamarind.
1.  The sweet tamarind are eaten when it's ripe as a friut.
2.  The sour tamarind are used for cooking, making drink and it is eaten as a friut.
