Thailand is in Southeast Asia and is approximately the size of France or Texas.
It has Burma for a neighbor to the north and west. Malaysia and the Gulf of
Thailand are to the south. Cambodia is to the southeast and Laos is to the
northeast.

The Golden Triangle is the northern area where Thailand,Burma,
and Laos intersect. Its name is derived from the golden fields of poppies that
were once abundant. Through the Golden Triangle and along the Eastern Laotian
border flows the Mekong River from its origins in Tibet. Other rivers are the
Ruak, Kok, Ping, Yom, Nan, Lao and other numerous tributaries.
Eastern Thailand
or Isan (pronounced e-san) is a mostly arid plateau where cattle and some farming
is done. Central Thailand is the heartland of the country and is the rice belt.
Western Thailand is a mostly a wilderness area. South Thailand is a heavily populated
Isthmus extending down to the Malaysian border.
