The Historical Promise Held
That early recording of Benjamin Banneker set the tone of the unwavering efforts of Blacks in their striving to be accepted as a viable part of the fabric of the "broader" America. Subsequently, The Black population eagerly enlisted to aid the cause of God, Lincoln, and Liberty.
America "created her share" of Buffalo soldiers following on the heels of the Civil War; "created her share" of Black Ruff Rides at the side of Teddy Roosevelt; and "created her share" of Black ace flyers during WWII. And, too, America "counted" her number of Black souls during the Korean Conflict; "counted" her "quota" of American Blacks in the Vietnam War--not to mention America's "head count" of Black souls in skirmishes to follow after.
From the era of our Continental Congress, decade followed decade with ever "the promise"--in limbo. Era followed era and ever is America's Black population told: hard work only is required to attain the American Dream. But it must here be recognized that no other people upon these American shores needed to endure so long a period in the hopes of obtaining and realizing the American "promise"--dream.
