The story you read is in the form of poetry. It is a poem that tells a story (a narrative). And the story suggests that little Paulie is an only child, that he has no brothers or sisters. So he must often use his imagination and play alone.
Choose to write on one or more of the following:
1. At any point in the story, write a different ending for Little Paulie's adventure.
2. Create a story of your own that says Little Paulie does have siblings, that means, he does have sisters and brothers. Then tell why it is that he is playing all by himself.
3. Little Paulie imagined how he would feel in the tree house when the big red ball covered over the entry way. Write how you think you may feel if suddenly the light in your room went out! And there you are...in complete darkness!
4. If you had the problem that Little Paulie had, or if you had a similar problem, what would you do to solve it? Feel free to use your imagination.
5. Often your mother or father or guardian allows you to try things on your own. And at times he or she may help you to do something. Think of one to three reasons why parents tell you not to do certain things. And create a story with the idea(s).
*Remember that a story has a beginning, a middle, and an ending. So, feel free to reread the story, if you feel you need hints on how to keep your story going from beginning to middle to end.
Also, you may write any exercise in poetic form or write it as many narratives are written, that is, as a short story.
