1 Harvestmonth (Autumnal Equinox): While the party waited for the Mynar to awaken, Laylah, Ruqayyah and Al-Zaki held more Ranae language drills, and Darra spoke with Helledoth. When Darra began her sword practice, the blade leaped into her hand and burst into flames. She was rather shocked, but reassured her friends that it just meant that the sword liked her. The others discussed among themselves possible uses for the sword. Al-Zaki confessed that his ability to analyze magic was very limited; Ruqayyah tried a Sense Life spell, but learned nothing.
The dragon left to hunt, and returned later with a foot-long snake rattle--the remains of his lunch. He gave the rattle to Ruqayyah, who tried experimenting with using its noise to accompany her dancing.
Late in the afternoon, the Mynar woke. They gave him water, and asked him his name: Umok. With clumsy speech (due to his injuries and his limited grasp of Ranae), Umok explained that the undead was "Vadim's creature"; eventually, Darra concluded that his references to death, evil and the "Road of Bones" meant that Vadim must be Shulkor, god of the undead. They asked Umok about Klur. He showed them a crude stone carving of a bull, over which he murmured some sort of prayer. When asked what Klur requires of him, he replied (his voice a little stronger now), "Smash evil." He was hunting the "hrogiggamargh" [Vadim's creature] to do just that. They asked where to find the servants of Vadim. They live to the east, at the "Mouth of Klur," which once belonged to the Mynars. There is no safe way to this place--it is a sacred site.
When Umok struggled to sit up, he noticed that Darra had his sword. She drew it to show the flames, which made the Mynar realize it was no longer his. Ruqayyah asked if he could guide them to the Mouth. After confirming that she had healed him, and that her friends had destroyed the undead thing, he solemnly pronounced that he owed her a "blood debt." They told him to rest now, and withdrew to discuss things among themselves.
Darra summarized what little she knew about the Civil War, the Asanos, Ormenlind and Helledoth. She guessed that the Asanos's purpose was to protect Krith. Laylah said she may wish to consult Rashira, but would go forward on her own for now unless she needed help. They speculated that by a "blood debt," Umok meant a life for a life. Al-Zaki (who had hidden himself from Umok using illusions) decided that he would hunt that night; Ruqayyah believed that food might help ease the shock of their eventual introduction.
That night, Naima saw something moving outside camp. She woke Darra, and they investigated. It was a large scorpion, which was heading towards the Mynar. Darra's bolts failed to kill it, but drove it off. They returned to Umok, who was awake now, and told him about the scorpion. He laughed when told it was only a foot long; he gestured that 5'-6' ones were common. Scorpions that size could kill Mynars, but hitting them first usually convinced them to flee.
![]() 2 Harvestmonth: Al-Zaki returned a little before dawn with some game. Ruqayyah examined Umok's wounds, but her healing spell failed due to the Mynar's Magic Resistance. Umok prayed over his stone figurine, then was able to shakily climb to his feet. Darra asked to see the figurine. When she touched it, the carving grew more distinct. Umok grew very still, and asked if she served Klur. She said yes, and that she hunted one of Vadim's servants. This heartened the Mynar mightily. Shortly thereafter, Umok saw the sleeping dragon, and froze. Darra claimed he was a friend, but Umok stayed nervous. Ruqayyah brought him some meat, then shifted to cat form to eat her share. Umok gave the dragon and cat strange looks the entire time he spent eating. The dragon woke and obliged Laylah by cooking some meat with his breath. Realizing how the undead had been burned, Umok grew very thoughtful. The party decided to rest here another day, so that Umok could heal more. |
