Aftermath 2: Darra
1 Darkmonth (Winter Solstice; New Year's Day): After waking, Darra tried to determine whether Ormenlind was still on the island. Most of the people who had attended the ritual slept until late afternoon. She found Pelmark first; he was still groggy, and was dressed more casually than she had seen him do before (a simple black robe with no insignia). He believed that the other clerics planned to divine his whereabouts this evening, and would let her know what they learned.
She went to meditate in the gardens. She asked Kuldor whether she needed to get involved with Ormenlind, and was told, "Only if you are asked." She resolved to stay apart from that search, but if the Emperor asked her, as a Holy Avenger, to become involved, she would play the role to the hilt, and as publicly as needed, in spite of her secret.
At dinner that evening, a messenger requested her to attend His Imperial Majesty the next morning. She agreed.
2 Darkmonth: Darra wore clean traveling clothes and her weapons to the audience; she refused to wear fancier clothes. A page led her to a chamber lined with tapestries of hunting and battle scenes. Emperor Brand thanked her for her help with the Asanos, particularly for helping to defend the priests. He apologized for the conflict between them at their first meeting. He asked her plans. She had none for certain, yet. She might be helping Laylah with a personal matter, if Laylah wished it and if she were leaving soon.
The Emperor was awaiting news on Ormenlind's whereabouts. If he were still on the island, would Darra lend her aid in a solution to that problem? If he were at large, he would poses a real danger to the realm. Given her god, and her friendship with Laylah, Darra had a unique perspective on this situation. She carefully asked whether he was requesting Kuldor's aid. Not at this time; not until he knew what the clerics would learn. But he wished to broach the subject now. Darra could not currently promise her aid. She felt this fight belonged to Laylah, who had requested peace for him. He turned his back two nights ago, but the choice was still there, and Darra could not easily interfere with that. She would not deny him peace in the interests of a speedy resolution; she chose to let her hand be stayed by Laylah, for now. They agreed to speak more of this sometime after Brand spoke with the clerics and with Laylah, both of which would occur later today.
Darra took her leave, and went in search of Laylah.
