Album: The Powerpuff Girls (Heroes & Villains)

Label: Rhino

The Review: Not a Porno Freak  thing you are probably thinking right about now.  In a way you are right but you know what makes this CD cool...its music inspired by none other that the Powerpuff Girls!  That alone makes this disc a must have!  This CD proves to be nothing but fun with new tracks from artists ranging from Devo, The Apples in Stereo, and Bis (who perform that catchy end theme song you hear after every episode).  The songs have a groovy 70's pop rock feel to them which kind of reminded me of the songs you would hear during a chase sequence on Scooby Doo.  The songs remotely deal with the show giving recognition to the trio in three different catchy songs performed by Shonen Knife (Buttercup), Komeda (Blossom), and Dressy Bessy (Bubbles).  Even the evil Mojo Jojo has his own song which is done in fun Devo fashion! However, I would have like to seen more songs dealing with the other villians on the show such as Him, Fuzzy Lumpkins, and the Gang Green Gang.  Maybe we will see that in the future.  For now lets appreciate this disc for the fun and up tempo indie songs it supplies.  Once again the day is saved by Blossom...Bubbles...and Buttercup! (I have always wanted to say that by the way!)

Album: Loud Rocks

Label: Loud Records

The Review: Wait a f**king second here...am I going blind or does this CD plainly say "loud rocks" on it?  Evedently it does but there is one major problem with this abomination of a CD...there is about 80% rap and the rest is rock I wouldn't call loud if my life depended on it.  This disc is perfect proof of what exactly is going wrong with the rock scene of today...rockers trying to be down by doing rap and rappers trying to be hip by doing rock.  I couldn't help but think of the Spawn soundtrack while reviewing this which pitted electronica with major rock bands.  Granted the soundtrack wasn't the best in the world but at least most of the bands did the vocals.  This disc pretty much keeps the bands as background while the rappers hog the spot light in almost every song.  Why did you bother doing this is a major question I would like some of the major bands on this disc such as Static-X, SOAD, Sevendust, and most of all Ozzy and Tony Iommi.  They all have put their work into the rock scene so why would any of them waste their time with a scene that has nothing to do with rock?  Rap core is s**t so lets just stop pretending its cool.  Rap is Rap and Rock is Rock and the hybrid (unlike other hybrids in music) is never going to sound good nor work so please for both genres sake's...cut the s**t will ya. I hate getting upset over music but sometimes I have to...whats next...boy bands and bubble gum chicks teaming up with metal and rock?  Lets hope the s**t stops here...

The Review: When I heard the term "chaos metal" loosely associated with this band I had to squirm.  As already stated  in the Eighteen Visions review, I can't stand a band that throws around music when it comes to speed and styles all in one song.  I started listening to this disc and I have to admit, more than not it proved my notion of "chaos metal" to be a little different when it came to this band.  Although there is an odd mix of speeds on this disc, their style is wicked to say the least.  That and most of the songs on the disc have a certain flow to them that don't over do the whole wacky break down thing.  To put it simple, expect a decent hardcore disc that is unpredictable yet oddly enough has a flow to it.
