As the ladies checked me out with my camera i respectfully said "hey you-smile" and for some reason i dont think it worked every time around. A few said hello back, some flipped me off, then there was the ones who stared at me like i was their baby's daddy. I quickly got away from that scene. My man here at the venders section of the festival hoooooked me up with the beans, rice, cornbread, & BBQ chicken. I got my grub on in the 5th degree. There were way to many food booths to eat at them all, but i tried- i told them i was a food critic(yeah they laughed at me) As my homegirl and her mom (left) looks on at the Pepsi mainstage, everyone patiently awaited the next group to get on stage and perform. Then as i was being yelled at to play some more Al Greene and Teddy Pendergrass, i noticed the calm being poured over the entire festival so of course i continued the selections. When the young lady(left) saw me comming towards her direction she noticed my small tiny james bondish looking camera and asked "is that a camera?" Isaid yes and asked would you like to have your picture takin, the children by then were already posing for the shot. Then i once again ran into the $5 gang (okay they're my little cousins) so to calm them down for a moment they asked if i would take there pic- tures. These beautiful women didnt worry about me being all up in their jive to get truly a special shot. I even had one blown up to poster size. Every knows the respect and love i give out to Africa always. This mother and daughter come all the way from the country of Somalia. I was able to witness the only planned violence at the festival as a couple of guys Jousted each other to the point of total fatigue. Everyone got there 5 minute turn to beat the friend, family member, or a complete stranger of there choosing. These young ladies came saw, and played. The littlest one was very eager to go on the big slide that ended into a pool of multi colored balls for a soft perfect landing every time. I really flashed when i seen all the different culture items as i went from booth to booth looking at flags statues.books, just all kinds of various artifacts from all around the world. |
