This is not really a column, just a collection of the updates I made to the various character pages based on the events of WOW show #19 (aired here on 2/11/01).
The Asian Invasion:
- Jade got beat by Poison, but apparently, they are making a big deal
out of "Jade's grandmother". As we all no doubt already knew from
the WOW website, "Jade is devoted to her grandmother and benefits from
her teachings." I will have to add more details to this later in the
week when the great Craig Zimmerman comes thru with the verbatim recap. In
the abstract, it sounds interesting. Maybe Jade's grandmother can "teach"
her some Asian-style moves like I have suggested here. There have also been
rumors about a breakup of the AI.
The Disciplinarian:
- Ms. D continues to get pooped on, losing to Caliente by submission. WOW's inability to recognize her mic skills or ability to draw heel heat is becoming quite glaring.
Julie Day:
- Scratch that...Julie returned from the dead and supposedly was decent. This, I really wish I saw. Stupid time slot change!!!
Lana Star:
- Amazingly, Lana was not in this episode. Actually, none of the established big names appeared...it was very strange, especially since only one match (Slam Dunk vs. Roxy Powers) had anything to do with the events of the previous week's PPV. Can't really explain this booking, although apparently, the wrestling was good.
Roxy Powers:
The feud with Slam Dunk continued, as Slam won a disputed match.
They obviously want the feud to keep going for a while, and they haven't exactly
come up with the most original ways to do it. I think it will nonetheless
succeed in ultimately getting Roxy over.
Slam Dunk:
The feud with Roxy Powers continued, as Slam won a disputed match. The feud is clearly being "strung out" over a series of matches, and feels a little forced, but it is probably the best thing they can do with these two characters right now. I see Roxy as the ultimate victor, leaving the question of what is to be done with Slam once she is no longer the undefeated monster heel. I guess that's when she gets her title shot. Strange how that works.
