Barbara

Hi,Im Barb and this is my me and them story:

Im happy my parents bought the telly when they did, this was black and white of  course,in errm 1957 I think it was, because not long after that along came Circus Boy.Lynne will probably go on about this more than I will because Micky is her No.1 guy,but I saw it,Im old enough,I was there!

I dont really remember that certain episode of Z Cars, but I did see David as Ena Sharples grandson in Coronation St.I came rushing home from Brownies.Hooked on soaps even then!

So I didnt actually see the Monkees "in Colour" till I went to the concert in Wembley in 1967,but it didnt seem to matter then, what we didnt have we didnt miss.

Of course I didnt come across Peter & Mike till that fateful December evening in 1966.But even then,I wasnt looking at them.I took one look at David and thought Wow!I cut out this tiny 1" x 1" photo from our local newspaper( lived in Southsea then) and the next day went rushing round my friend Jans, saying "wow did you see THAT last night"??So of course after that we never missed an episode, bought all the records, plastered bedroom walls with posters, you know, the whole thing!

Me and Jan sent away for our concert tickets from New Musical Express. When they came I stuck mine on my bedroom wall in an envelope, thinking that was probably the safest place.I think Id feel abit silly doing that now!(I have 6 concert tickets in a draw!!).I dont know how come our parents let us,15 year old girls,go to London on our own,and find a guesthouse when we got there, but for some strange reason they did.We got to London by bus and found a guesthouse near Victoria and from there caught the tube across London to Wembley. It was a hot day ,and I even remember what I wore! weird!

I know where abouts we sat or rather not sat, because we stood on the seats and screamed! The stewards had fits!

This photo of Davy below is a fairly recent one I purchased.I hadnt seen it before and its actually from June 30th,so Im told.I need to get it autographed I think!Anyway, taking photos was the last thing on a 15 year olds mind,in those days,so we didnt take any.I havnt seen any other photos much of this great event either come to think of it.We always hoped that there would be a long lost film somewhere aswell!

I know Davy was my first love and I never lost sight of that, but seeing Peter, blond hair and everything, playing banjo up there on stage,I thought ooohhh! So maybe it was this factor that led me to progress onto Crosby,Stills and Nash when the Monkees became no more.Ill will always regret not hanging in on there and we could have all grown up together.I keep thinking maybe

27 years wasnt that long to wait was it?Maybe I had to get on with my life or something?I can honestly say though,I did think about them now and again.I used to remember reading things in newspapers and magazines and it always said "ex-Monkee" Davy Jones,or one of the others and that always made me sad. When we read articles now and it says the same thing, like it does if its about Mike or now,Peter,I always think "once a Monkee, always a Monkee"like David says :)
