Everyone knows that Micky Dolenz has a wonderful voice but not many people have heard him sing opera type songs until last year when he sung a few bars from Roger and Hammerstein’s ‘Some Enchanted Evening’ during the latest concert tour as a tribute to his dad.

It is funny how something so little can turn into something much bigger.  So the unintended consequences of Micky’s tribute to his dad turned into a whole new branch of his career, which has already been long and very successful.

Micky landed the role of Zoser, a controlling and manipulative father in a musical called ‘Aida’.  ‘Aida’ has been adapted from a Giuseppe Verdi popular opera by Elton John and Tim Rice.

Aida is a story about two young people who full in love.  Radame is an Egyptian Army captain who falls in love with Aida.  He believes she is a slave and the handmaiden of Princess Amneri, the women he is about to marry and the daughter of the Nubian King.

Zoser the character that Micky is playing is Radame’s father.  When he finds out that Radame and Aida are having a romantic relationship he tries to kill her as he realised his son is putting the position to the throne in jeopardy as the two nations are enemies.

The story is about love that can span race, creed, social and political boundaries.  It is also about revenge and power but it does contain some lighthearted moments and comedy.

Micky sings two songs during the performances, which he believes are the best two songs in the show.  They are ‘Another Pyramid’ and ‘Like Father Like Son’.

A C.D. containing songs from the show is available and can be bought on Amazon but Micky is not singing on this one but hopefully in the near future one will be released with Micky’s two tracks on it.

Micky joined the show in Fort Myer on 25th February 2003 and will be touring the States for six months.  He said that he finds touring very hard no matter whether it is performing in concerts or doing theatre work so he feels that he is being paid for the travelling but he does the shows for free.
