THE CUTLASS EPISODE

Original scenario by Stephen V. Cole

Year 166

A recent raid against fighter group #26 in year 166 was an inspiration to many Klingon captains. Later that year, a captain of a D7 decided to attempt the same raid. Noting the approach of a Kzinti CV, he avoided her (allowing a convoy to be shot up by the fighter group) and went looking for her back-up fighters. Locating and destroying the auxiliary carrier, the D7 turned for home and encountered the Kzinti CV looking for the now destroyed auxiliary carrier and its back-up squadron.

NUMBER OF PLAYERS: One Klingon and one Kzinti.

INITIAL SETUP

Kzinti: CV (A) in hex 0809, heading C, speed 8, WS-I.

Klingon: D7b (B) in hex 4025, heading F, speed 10, WS-I.

LENGTH OF SCENARIO: The scenario continues until all forces belonging to one side have been destroyed, captured, or have disengaged.

SPECIAL RULES:

Map: Use a floating map.

Shuttles and PFs: No shuttles have warp booster packs.

MRS shuttles may be purchased [up to the limits in (J8.5)] as commander’s options.

Commander’s Options:

Each ship can purchase additional or special equipment as commander’s option items up to 20 % of its combat BPV. See (S3.2) for details and exceptions. Note that whatever is spent here counts as victory points for the enemy.

All drones are slow, speed 8. Type-II and type-V drones and medium (speed 20) drones are available for purchase as special drones.

Each drone-armed ship can purchase special drones up to the historical racial percentages, based on their remaining at start drones (see below) as part of the commander’s options.

Refits: The Klingon D7 has the B refit. No other refits are available.

Both ships have expended many drones in their recent battles and have not had time to complete reloading. The scenario moderator will determine the amount of drones in each rack prior to game start according to original scenario outline. Both ships have their full rack reloads available (4 spaces per rack).

The Kzinti CV has taken some minor damage in combat. The scenario moderator will distribute 10 internals to the CV according to the DAC prior to game start. The ship has not expended any of its repair capability. In addition to the normal reloads for the drone racks, the ship has 78 type-I drones remaining in storage for its fighters.

The Kzinti CV has two operable AAS fighters in its bay (the rest were destroyed or too damaged to use), but they are not loaded with drones. Deck crews can load them.

Both ships have all admin shuttles.

VICTORY CONDITIONS: Use the modified victory conditions.
