On this page you’ll find information on the Buffybot’s in-canon appearances (ie: Her actual appearances on episodes of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER). As of this writing there are only three of these appearances, four if you count the double-length BARGAINING as two episodes. A little further down is information on some of the other robotic inhabitants of Joss Whedon’s Buffy Universe.

Please be forewarned, that this page necessarily contains SPOILERS concerning the fifth season finale and sixth season premiere of Buffy.

Buffybot in INTERVENTION

-The first appearance of Buffybot. Created by robotic inventor Warren Meers on commission from the vampire Spike. Spike, hopelessly in love with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, had this robot created in her image when the real thing would have nothing to do with him. Designed mainly as a walking, talking sex toy, the Buffybot was programmed with dozens of scenarios and talents designed to gratify Spike, although she also possessed a vast repository of real-world knowledge. The Buffybot was also much stronger than a human being, and programmed to think she was genuinely Buffy...hence, she would go out on patrol when Spike wasn’t around.
Her appearance on the scene caused several unique problems. First, Buffy’s friends spied her being intimate with Spike at one point, and naturally believed it was the real Buffy. Minions of the Hellgoddess Glory also noticed the special attention being lavished on Spike by what they believed was the Slayer, and captured the vampire under the assumption he was the mystical Key sought by their mistress. Teaming up with the real Buffy and her friends, Buffybot helped free Spike from Glory’s clutches, but was grievously wounded in the battle and decommissioned.

Buffybot in THE GIFT

-The Buffybot was reactivated and, likely, reprogrammed somewhat as well to aid in the final battle with Glory. The Buffybot was sent into battle, posing as the real Buffy to wear Glory down as much as possible before sending in the real deal. Buffybot weakened Glory using the Dagon Sphere and traded blows (and insults) with the Goddess before a cruel blow took her head clean off, ending her participation in the fight.

Buffybot in BARGAINING

-Following the death of Buffy Summers in the battle against Glory, the Buffybot was subsequently repaired and put into action, posing as Buffy to convince the world at large she still kept the peace in Sunnydale. Also to convince the more earthly powers that be that Dawn was in good hands, Buffybot was reprogrammed to handle such tasks as making breakfast and attending parent-teacher days at school. An unfortunate encounter with a vampire leads to a group of demon-bikers discovering the truth about Buffybot, and they invade Sunnydale en masse. They capture Buffybot and beat her mercilessly, finally quartering her with their cycles. Buffybot’s limbless torso was discovered by Spike and Dawn, and her central processor seemed to finally fail permanently in the presence of her pretend-sister. This is, to date, the last in-canon appearance (or even mention) of the Buffybot.

Other Buffyverse Robots

Moloch (demon inhabiting robotic shell)

-First Appearance: I ROBOT YOU JANE (BTVS Season 1 Episode 8)

Ted

-First Appearance: TED (BTVS Season 2 Episode 11)
A sociopathic robot created in the image of it’s inventor, Ted was built by a madman sometime in the 1950's. A physically ill man whose wife had left him, Ted was created to bring the inventors estranged wife back, where she was made a prisoner until her death. It’s unclear exactly when the real Ted actually died, but his robot carried on following that event, meeting and marrying women who approximated the inventors wife, then returning them to his home where they would never leave. Ted attempted to capture Buffy’s mother Joyce in this manner, but was thwarted and eventually destroyed by the Slayer and her friends. Ted was incredibly strong, and used chemically addictive foodstuffs to bend humans to his will. Willow is rumoured to have kept certain pieces of Ted, as ‘souvenirs’.

Adam (cyborg...some robotic components)

-First Appearance: THE I IN TEAM (BTVS Season 4 Episode 13)

April

-First Appearance: I WAS MADE TO LOVE YOU (BTVS Season 4 Episode 15)
The first (known) robotic creation of Warren Meers, April was built to be his ‘perfect girlfriend’, but proved a little too predictable a mate for the spoiled inventor. He became enamoured of another, human girl, and fled to Sunnydale in the hopes that April’s power would simply run out before she could catch up with him. He underestimated, and April made it to Sunnydale, becoming increasingly though unwittingly violent in her search for her boyfriend. Buffy managed to track the rogue robot just in time to save Warren’s new girlfriend from her wrath. A battle ensued, ending when April’s power cells finally ran out and she simply ‘died’.

Files and Records

-First Appearance: DAD (Angel Season 3 Episode 8)
The enigmatic machine known only as Files and Records works in the division of the same name, at Los Angeles based law firm Wolfram and Hart. Specializing in data recall, F&R has the cumulative knowledge of Wolfram and Hart’s considerable file base contained within her brain. Exact details on her construction and nature are unknown as of this writing.

WarrenBot

-First Appearance: VILLAINS (BTVS Season 6 Episode 20)
Another creation of Warren Meers, this robot was a duplicate of himself designed to throw the vengeance-seeking Willow off his trail after he murdered Tara. The Warrenbot was caught and disabled quite quickly by the powerful Willow.

El Diablo Robotico

- No Picture Avaliable -

-First mentioned: THE CAUTIONARY TALE OF NUMERO CINCO (Angel Season 5 Episode 6)
Little is known about the robot El Diablo Robotico, save that is was supposedly built by the Devil himself, and defeated sometime in the 1950's (approx.) by the heroic band of five Mexican wrestling heroes, Los Hermanos Numeros.

And now, back to The BUFFYBOT Adventures!
