DENOMINATIONAL INFORMATION:

Due to the denominational "climate" within the state of Texas and the broader SBC, it is probably best to say a few words about my stance here.  Since this is a critically important issue, especially to the local church; it is in my estimation, essential, to be "up front."  Our church as well as myself are faithful supporters of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC).  We are uniquely affiliated with the Southern Baptist of Texas Convention (SBTC).  We are also in agreement with the 2000 Baptist Faith and Message.

MISSIONS INVOLVEMENT:

Our church over the years, has participated in various missions endeavors & support:  Cooperative Program, Trinity River Baptist Association, Pregnancy Care Center, Tsunami Disaster Relief, Gospel For Asia, Voice of the Martyrs, Lake Tomahawk Bapt. Encampment, Wycliffe Bible Translators, Fellowship of Christian Cowboys, Better Way Club, Christian Jew Foundation, Smith Point Mission Trip.

PERSONAL CONFLICT EXPERIENCE:

You will notice that I came to Calvary as Associate in 1994 & became Pastor in May of 1996.  The Pastor attempted to split the church (did a fairly good job of it) in January of 1996.  He started a church about 5 miles down the road.  My philosophy on church splits is that no man is bigger than any church & that God does not condone church splits.  At the time we ran about 400 in SS.  He took 200, 100 stayed, & 100 don’t even go to church.  I stayed, telling the church I would fulfill my duties as associate as well as fill the pulpit until they called someone else.  A search committee was formed & the church called me in May of 96.  While I would not want what happened to happen again, I would not give anything for my experience.  The many lives we have touched in the almost 12 years at Calvary & the change in my family’s life & mine is immeasurable.  If you have any further questions involving this issue, may I refer you to our DOM, Dr. Duane Kelley?
