Changeling is glad she has fur, since she'd be blushing profusely if she didn't. It wasn't that she was unused to being paid attention, but she'd not had that kind of attention paid for quite a while. It's a little unnerving to know someone has their eye on you without being able to see them.
She stoops to place Kat gently on the bed and straightens, glancing around for the source of Paradox's mental presence.

Posted by Various on 1/30/2002, 7:31 pm
Mirage is half amused, half annoyed. She gives the demonic mutant the equivalent of a mental smack, and receives the mental version of a raised eyebrow in return. She just rolls her eyes, Paradox did innocent entirely too well. She feels a spike of something from Joey and turns her head to look at him. The silver haired teens expression was actually blank, or at least as blank as he could get it. He seemed faintly disturbed by something, and she could tell that his attention was turned inward on his own thoughts.
Paradox's mental presence seems to be coming from the opposite part of the house. The demonic mutant is actually in the kitchen working on making lunch.
Vision nearly starts laughing as the very disgruntled mental presence Paradox withdraws from the room with a curse. The pasta was burning!

Posted by Changeling on 1/30/2002, 7:48 pm
She 'watches' the exchange with a mental grin, trying not to actually smile when Paradox leaves because of the pasta. She doesn't notice very much of anything else, but keeps her eyes down, mostly gazing tenderly at Kat asleep on the bed. She hopes that the girl will wake soon, and that she won't be permanently damaged by what happened. It is surprising even to Changeling herself how she'd taken to the girl, and a little confusing. Why Kat? Was it because she'd treated Changeling a little more human than the rest? She definitly didn't feel any kind of relation with Kanga... but then again, that girl tended to rub her the wrong way more often than not. Her tail twitches with her thoughts, and she doesn't realize she's gazing at the sleeping form on the bed untill something reminds her of Joey. She blinks and looks up, wondering sheepishly if anyone notices that lapse, and glances at Joey.
Gone again... is about her reaction to the blank look on his face. She looks quickly around at the other two in the room, wondering if this would be a good time to retreat. It wouldn't be good if they asked for exact details of what happened... she didn't want to have to explain certain things, and evasion would get them nowhere but in more trouble.

Posted by Various on 1/30/2002, 7:53 pm
Mirage shoo's everyone out of the room. "Why don't we leave Kat to her rest." She comments as she waves everyone towards the door. When everyone is out she quietly closes the door. She feels Paradox's mental presence drift past. ~Why don't you invite them for lunch?~ The demonic mutant suggests to Mirage.
Perhaps cause Vision would kill me? Thinks Mirage in answer.

Posted by Changeling on 1/30/2002, 7:57 pm
She nods and allows herself to be ushered out of Kat's room into the hall. It's pretty cramped, especially for her. When senses Paradox's presence, she is immediately shy again, looking around but keeping her eyes cast down submissively.

Posted by Various on 1/30/2002, 7:59 pm
Paradox rolls his eyes. ~Yeah right. Vision couldn't kill you even if she wanted to.~
Mirage rolls her eyes in answer. "Um, there's more space in the living room." She comments, pointing the way to the living room.

Posted by Changeling on 1/30/2002, 8:01pm
She nods and heads to the living room, glad to have a little more space to move around, but a little uncomfortable. She hopes that they won't ask any more questions, but how could they not? Especially since they weren't showing the way to the door.

Posted by Various on 1/30/2002, 8:04 pm
Vision glances at Mirage, curious as to why she hadn't gotten rid of the two.
Mirage shrugs in answer, she hadn't known what else to do.
Paradox peers out of the kitchen mostly out of sight.

Posted by Changeling on 1/30/2002, 8:07 pm
She glances around the familiar room, incredibly uncomfortable, and catches a glance of Paradox. She smiles slightly, glad again that she has fur, and looks away at Joey and the two sisters.

Posted by Kat and Kanga on 1/31/2002, 1:43 pm
As soon as the adults leave a figure with an odd gait slips out of an adjacent room and slips into Kat's, closing the door quietly behind herself. She hops to Kat's bed and stands silently beside it. She felt faintly betrayed, but mostly worried and a bit guilty. Maybe if she would have gone along she could have stopped whatever Eliza had done to turn her best friend into a entirely too still body. She sighs, wiping the eyes to get rid of the 'dust' that was making her eyes water. She takes a seat on the camping chair next to the bed, still studying her friends motionless form. She really hoped that Kat would be okay.
She blinks as Kat shifts slightly, not quite believing her eyes. Kanga nearly tackles the feline mutant when she sits up, scrubbing at her eyes with one kitty padded palm. "You're okay!!" Kanga practically shouts, hugging her friend.
Kat blinks, completely and utterly confused by her friend reaction, then winces. Kanga's metal arm was wrapped around her too tightly and it was bruising her skin. "Will... you get... off me!" She manages to get out, clunking her friend lightly on the head in an effort to make her let go. The hit is a good deal weaker then she expected it to be, evidently she still wasn't completely recovered. Then again, she supposed that she shouldn't be, the entire mess had happened not long ago. Maybe it was the fact that she was actually awake that should surprise her. When she'd collapsed she had intended to black out for at least a week. At least then she wouldn't have to think about what happened...
Kanga sits back, grinning in relief and sits on the bed beside her friend. "You're okay!" She repeats, as if she needed Kat to confirm it. She was entirely too happy to mind the light tap to the head. She occasionally forgot that one of her arms was living metal, and used it as if it was simply her real limb. A lapse of memory that was sometimes painful for whomever she happened to be near at the moment.
Kat nods, eyeing Kanga as if she was wondering if the roo-girl had gone off the deep end. She certainly wasn't feeling okay, but Kanga couldn't have known about the entire encounter with her foster parents, so she was probably referring to her physical state and not her mental one. "Um, yeah..." She says, still not completely awake. She knew she'd been having some really bizarre dreams, but she couldn't remember much from any of them. She figured that was probably a good thing.
Kanga says, faintly put out by her friend acting as if being hauled home as an unconscious body was no big deal. "Joey and some friend had to haul you home. What was it like being brought home by him?" She sighs happily at the idea of being picked up by Joey and carried anywhere in his arms.
Kat just eyes her friend, the suspicion that Kanga really had gone insane becoming stronger, and just how bad her friends crush on Joey really was also beginning to dawn on her. Kanga had it bad, really bad, so badly that Kat had to resist the urge to smack her friend upside the head in an effort to make the roo-girl realize that she was being silly. "Joey didn't carry me, Eliza did." She says quietly.

Posted by Kat and Kanga on 1/31/2002, 1:43 pm
Kanga's jaw drops open, displaying her very un-roo like fangs. "What?!? You let Eliza carry you home after what she did?!?" She was shocked, she'd thought that Eliza had completely freaked out on Kat and then Joey had finally seen the light and rescued Kat from the vampire with the help of a friend.
Kat eyes her friend silently, shocked by how much her friend's jealously had corrupted her thinking. "So what do you think Eliza did?" She asks, tone entirely too calm and icy. Anyone that had lived with Vision for long would have recognized the warning tone in the young mutant's voice and dropped the subject, but in all the time Kanga had known Kat she'd never run into that particular iciness and completely missed the warning.
"I thought she attacked you and then Joey rescued you..." She goes faintly spacy as she remembers Joey swooping in to distract the crowd when he'd rescued her. The fact that it was actually Darkling who had gotten her away seems to have completely slipped her mind. " With the help of a friend and then they brought you home." She finishes quickly, hoping that Kat had missed her spacing out.
Kat shakes her head sadly, dismayed by how bad the dislike Kanga felt for Eliza truly was. Her friend had completely misread Joey's dark friend. "You've got it all wrong." She says quietly. To fix the misconception she would have to tell Kanga what happened, and to do that she would have to think about what happened. She really didn't want to do that.
"So tell me what happened." Kanga frowns, faintly annoyed, wishing her friend would just spill the beans. She couldn't think of any other reason for Kat to be brought home unconscious after going out with Joey and Eliza. Joey certainly hadn't attacked her. The betrayal she felt after being left behind was also coming back, replacing the relief she'd felt when she'd realized that Kat was okay.
"Fine." Even Kanga couldn't miss the ice in that word. "Eliza, Joey and I were heading out to go visit that cool store, the one with the swords and such, and we met my foster parents coming out of the mall." She pauses there, not quite sure if she could finish telling the tale, but goes on, continuing in a rush of words. "They saw me, and the projection looks so much like I used to that they came over. Tracy.." She'd almost said my mother, the person she'd known as Mom for so long wasn't her mother any more, she'd tried to kill her. Kat continues on before that can get to her. "Tracy came up, with Joe, and they asked me why I ran away. Tracy saw that.." She skips over the fact that she'd been entirely too close to breaking into tears. "Tracy grabbed my arm and hit the button that turned off the projector. She and Joe freaked out when they saw my real form, and Joe picked up a couple of rocks and chucked them at me." She pauses for a moment, running her hand across where the bruise should be, then remembers Joey healed her. "So Joey tried to stop them, and stepped between us. Tracy.." She'd almost said my mother again. "Tracy pulled a gun from her purse and shot him."
Kanga's fur stands up and she gasps, Kat could tell that she was very ticked off by the idea of anyone shooting at Joey. The silver haired teen hadn't looked like he was hurt when he came in... "So she missed him?" She'd been listening quietly through the first part of the story, perceptive enough to realize that Kat needed to get through the tale, but at the mention of Joey getting shot she couldn't help commenting. She wasn't shocked by the sudden betrayal of Kat's foster parents. She'd run into that entirely too many times herself to be surprised by it.

Posted by Kat and Kanga on 1/31/2002, 1:44 pm
"No." Kat answers quietly, lost in remembering. "She hit him, right below the ribs." She holds up a hand to stop Kanga's worried outburst. "Let me finish. Eliza freaked out, and jumped between Joe, Tracy, and Joey, shape shifted into a giant husky. Tracy shot her too.. Point blank in the chest. Getting shot didn't seem to phase either of them. I escaped up the nearest building. I.." She just skips over what she'd been thinking at the moment, continuing on with the story. "So Tracy shot again and again, pumping bullets into both Joey and Eliza. Eliza looked like she was gona attack my.." She'd almost said it again. "Joe and Tracy. So Joey stepped between them and asked Eliza to go check on me. She shifted into wings and flew up to the roof, where I was watching. Tracy tracked her with the gun, intending to shoot her.." She pauses there for a moment, not liking what she was going to have to say next. "And Joey flared his wings at Tracy, making himself a target. And.. And..." It takes her a couple of tries to get it out. "And Tracy shot him, point blank in the forehead and he fell over into the alley with a hole in his brow. That's when I stopped watching."
Kat has to take a deep shaky breath before continuing. " So Eliza came to comfort me, I thought she was gona die too. Joey wasn't the only one filled with bullet holes, and I could sense her fading." The cat-girl is rather surprised that she hadn't broken into tears yet. "Then Joey came back.. Landed on the roof and healed both of us.. And I freaked out, or something and then I blacked out... And Eliza picked me up and they both brought me home." She finishes the narrative quickly, not wanting to dwell on her own bizarre behavior.
Kanga just sits for a moment, stunned. " So you saw Joey die.. but he came up to the roof a few moments later?" She just blinks. She can't help wishing that Eliza was lying on a roof top someplace full of bullet holes and not in Joey's company, then she's surprised by her own thoughts. She wasn't that nasty, was she? She doesn't get time to think that over. "Eliza brought you home??" That last bit had finally registered.
"Yeah. I was sure he was dead. I'm beginning to think that Joey isn't mortal." Kat nods at her friends last comment. "Yah. Who'd you think the giant winged husky was?" Suddenly tired again she sinks back against the pillows.
Kanga's too busy thinking to even notice her friends exhaustion. "Not mortal?" She sounds really indignant. "What else would he be? Eliza's the one that's a blood drinking vampire. She's the one that's not mortal. Bullets didn't even phase her." For some reason it'd never occurred to her to link the faintly angelic looking wolf mutant with the obviously vampiric Eliza. She doesn't answer her friends last question.
"Bullets didn't seem to hurt Joey either." Kat points out, eyes closed as she lounges in bed. When she'd first met Joey she hadn't trusted the silver haired teen. Even when Kanga was still a norm and they went to school together it always took Kanga a long time to trust anyone. Having her take such a quick liking to someone was really odd. She'd eventually realized that Joey was okay, although her friends bizarre crush continued to worry her. "Eliza's cool. You've got her all wrong."
"So? We've seen how fast Joey heals." She doesn't comment on Kat's description of the female vamp, but her fur stands on end. "I think she's compelled you and Joey both to make you like her." She says, annoyed with her best friend. Eliza was a vampire, she didn't know how her friend had managed to forget the dark woman's freak out. Kat had a disturbing tendency to make friends with the blood sucking immortals. Moon and Eliza were both vampires. Kat was entirely too trusting, it was going to get her hurt someday, Kanga knew it.
"There was no way any mortal would have survived that shot to the head. Even if he had just healed himself, he would have been braindead!" Her own fur stands at Kanga's comment on Eliza, but she wasn't going to dignify the remark with a reply. "Why don't you go see how everyone is doing?" She suggests finally, just wanting to fall back into the sleep she'd been lost in before the roo-girl came.
Kanga snorts, correctly recognizing the comment as an effort to get rid of her. "Fine. I will." And trounces out.
Then again, Kat thinks, maybe she'd cry for a bit before going back to sleep. Loosing her parents, having a fight with her best friend, seeing two people nearly die or actually die and seeing one come back from the dead was just a little too much for her. If she was lucky, maybe this sleep would be dreamless. She curls up into a ball underneath the covers, only her tail visible as it pokes out from beneath. She hoped that the blankets would muffle her sobs, because she just wanted to have a good cry.

Meanwhile, back in the living room...

Joey looks distant, but not exactly spaced out. More as if he was currently in very deep thought on a subject that worried him quite a bit. He just kinda trails along with everyone, keeping close to Changeling.
Vision sits on the couch, moving with her usual feline grace. She peers into the kitchen from her seat, wondering if Paradox managed to save their lunch.
Mirage too, takes a seat on the couch, beside Vision. She was rather lost for words. Her sharp hearing picks up a faint growl, which she assumes came from Changeling's stomach. Oh well, maybe everyone would relax after a meal. She eyes Vision, knowing that her sister would pick up what she was silently asking about. The older mutant shrugs, conveying that if she wanted to, everything that went on would be on her head.
Mirage blinks, that was hardly comforting. "I don't suppose you two would like to stay for lunch?" She offers, faintly amused to be taking Paradox's suggestion.
Paradox smiles in his place in the kitchen. This was going to be interesting.

Posted by Changeling on 1/31/2002, 2:37 pm
Changeling is fairly surprised by the invitation and looks quickly at Joey to see what he thought of it, the blank look on his face not entirely reassuring. After a short pause she answers quietly, keeping her head down "I don't want to impose..." she truly doesn't, in fact, it is the last thing she wishes to do. However, she doesn't want to turn down the offer of such tasty smelling food either. She is awfully hungry after that brush with death, and whatever Paradox is cooking in the kitchen is making her mouth water. She finally looks up at Mirage and smiles slightly, deciding to be thankful for the invitation.

Posted by Twixle on 1/31/2002, 4:44 pm
The arrival of company and an intensification of the hustle and bustle about the house disturbs her from her sleep. She sat up with a yawn and stretched, her translucent butterfly wings fluttering absently as she did so.
Curious about what was going on she swung out of bed and trampsed down her stairs to the dollhouse' bathroom. She picked up a makeshift brush--slightly too large-- and straightened her golden blond hair, arranging it with a smile to frame her dark face and bejeweled eyes in case there was company.
Then, whistling pleasantly to herself, she made her way to her front door and exited Mirage's dollhouse. With a flap of her wings she was in the air and zooming over to the much larger workshop's door. She grinned when she saw it was open a crack. From the air wafting from the door she could smell the delicious aromas of a meal being cooked, and her stomached growled as both her stomach and her memory reminded her that she had not eaten that day yet.
Mustering all her strength she got the door to open another inch, then slipped through, following her nose. She went carefully, making sure to stay out of sight in case she angered Vision. She did not know if being allowed out last time meant she was allowed to explore or not.

Posted by Rhiow on 1/31/2002, 4:56 pm
Rhiow looks up from her position in the shadows of the room near the door to Vision's workroom. She didn't dare go out there, not with the vampire a heck of a lot bigger then she was. She looks up as the winged mutant drifts by and grins. This one wasn't larger then she was, she could have some fun. Rhiow leaps into the air, batting at Twixle with her paws.

Posted by Twixle on 1/31/2002, 4:59 pm
So absorbed was she in trying to avoid big people, she did not even realize that cat was there until it was a second almost too late.
One paw struck Twixle and she went flying in the opposite direction, recovering by flying much higher, eyes wide in surprise and sudden fear as she realized that it was a cat.
Oh...no.... She remembered why she did not like cats much.

Posted by Rhiow on 1/31/2002, 5:02 pm
She studies Twixle, tail lashing about. She thinks that she might be able to get at Twixle even without bouncing off something, but that would involve effort. She looks around and notices a chair by the wall and bounces up in then launches herself into the air after the small mutant.

Posted by Changeling on 1/31/2002, 5:03 pm
Ciin senses the slight disturbance, but it's slow mind dismisses the troublemaker cat and tiny butterfly-thing. Nothing to worry about. It goes back to patrolling the workroom, then settles down for a nap.
Changeling also notices the slight noise Rhiow made, her husky hearing acute for the sound of possible trouble, but when she catches the cat's scent, she shrugs it off. That was one thing she didn't have to worry about in this form. She does notice a strangely familiar scent along with the cat's, but doesn't recall where she's smelled it before. It's a little troubling, but she has far more to worry about at the moment.

Posted by Various on 1/31/2002, 5:09 pm
Mirage shrugs cheerfully. "Don't worry about it." She looks towards the kitchen. "Besides, I think Paradox wants the chance to show off." That comment was meant to carry into the kitchen.
The sound of a mental chuckle drifts in. ~Whatever gave you that idea?~ Paradox's amused mindvoice drifts to everyone in the room. ~ I don't often get the opportunity to cook for so many.~ He's still staying mostly out of sight, but his thick bladed tail drifts into view every once and awhile.
Vision sits silently, eyeing everyone in the room with the same icy blue glance. At least she'd calmed down enough to shift her eyes back to the color they were supposed to be in her human form.

Posted by Twixle on 1/31/2002, 5:12 pm
Her eyes widen and she began to flutter about, dodging the cat's pounce like a butterfly would. First she was up then she was down low, then she was heading to the side then completely changing her direction.
Of course, this probably just made her all the more tempting....

Posted by Rhiow and Saash on 1/31/2002, 5:16 pm
Rhiow bounces into the air again, trying to bat Twixle out of the air. All the bouncing draws Saash over, whom after studying the small mutant for a momen, joins in. Now Twixle had two cats after her.

Posted by Changeling on 1/31/2002, 5:22 pm
Her ear flicks back, towards the workroom where Twixle is dodging the two cats, and she wonders again at the scent. She dismisses it again, but keeps a sharp ear open for any tell-tale signs of trouble. She smiles slightly at Mirage, then a little more at Paradox's mindvoice. She reflects on the way things stand. If it hadn't been so serious, the whole situation might have been hilarious.

Posted by Twixle on 1/31/2002, 5:24 pm
Her eyes widen further with a frightened squeak and she flys up near the ceiling, hovering there, hoping the cats weren't mutants also in some way.
She bit her lip nervously as she looked down at them, wishing she had some ability to scare them off without hurting them.

Posted by Rhiow and Saash on 1/31/2002, 5:42 pm
The interest of Saash is more simple curiousity and kitten like playfullness. Rhiow's interest is a little more malicious. Just how odd the cats really are becomes apparent when Saash pauses for a moment on the ground, letting Rhiow use her like a springboard.

Posted by Changeling on 1/31/2002, 5:55 pm
The commotion attracts her attention again and an ear turns towards the sound. Familiar... what is it? The last time she was here, she was in falcon, and then human form. Neither had much of a sense of smell for such things but she must have caught a whiff of whatever it is... she tries to think, then remembers what happened last time, and the individual that was closest when it happened... That little fairy thing was right on her nose (or beak, rather) so... she perks the other ear and turns her great furry head in the diection of the disturbance.

Posted by Twixle on 1/31/2002, 5:58 pm
She watches, agape as one of the cats is used as a springboard. How...? Without thinking she flies as fast and as hard as she could, straight into the closest room she could find that might contain someone who could save her from the two carnivore cats....

Posted by Rhiow and Saash on 1/31/2002, 6:09 pm
The closest room would be the living room, where everyone was sitting. The two cat's follow closely, bounding down the hall after the little mutant. Rhiow stops dead when she realizes where Twixle is going, but Saash continues to bounce along cheerfully.

Posted by Changeling on 1/31/2002, 6:17 pm
She hears the approach and tenses, watching. She hopes the cats didn't have it in for her again, but that would be hard considering the extreme difference in size. Still, she didn't want to underestimate those two... especially the bigger one.

Posted by Twixle on 1/31/2002, 6:24 pm
She fluttered into the room, suddenly shocked that she came in with not just one person but many many big tall gigantic people in there. She fluttered up to a corner of the room and hovered by the ceiling, keeping an eye on the two cats. She trembled in the fear of her close call.

Posted by Saash on 1/31/2002, 6:28 pm
Saash bounces onto the arm of the couch, off Changeling's furry head and leaps roofward, heading towards Twixle. One gets the feeling that if she'd been human at the moment she would have been giggling. This was fun!

Posted by Changeling on 1/31/2002, 6:34 pm
Changeling blinks when both the fairy-person and smaller cat dash into sight, and stares openly at Twixle. When the Saash leaps at her she winces, and when the cat leaps from the top of her head, she resists the urge to snap at her. Instead, she watches as the fluffy cat tries to catch the 'butterfly'. If she actually caught her, she'd help of course, but she still feels a little resentment towards the fairy mutant for causing so much trouble.
Actually, she's fairly surprised by the sudden appearance, and had Mirage been keeping an eye on her emotional state, she'd have noticed a spike of stunned shock at the whole thing.

Posted by Twixle on 1/31/2002, 6:41 pm
With a small, high-pitched squeak of fear she is off flying quickly again, dodging the leaping Saash, this time heading for the kitchen where she hopes there might be more knooks and crannies high up in which to hide.

Posted by Saash and Mirage on 1/31/2002, 6:47 pm
Saash lands neatly and is about to go off after Twixle again before Mirage intercepts her. The green and lavender mutant picks up her extremely furry cat. "Leave Twixle alone, okay?" She says to the cat, then returns to the couch, putting Saash on her lap.
Saash looks faintly sheepish, then settles quietly on Mirage's lap.

Posted by Changeling on 1/31/2002, 6:53 pm
She watches the chase, and smiles ironically when Mirage says almost exactly the same words Joey had last time they were here when he was protecting her from the cats.
She watches Twixle dash into the kitchen and wonders vaguely what she'll think of Paradox...

Posted by Twixle on 1/31/2002, 7:08 pm
She was looking back as she flew, relieved that Saash wasn't going to chase her anymore. Still, she did not know where Rhiow was and didn't want to risk anything. Her flight was stopped short when she crashed into something hard and fell, shocked out of flight.

Posted by Paradox on 1/31/2002, 7:13 pm
Paradox blinks when something small smacks into his nose. When he sees the small mutant falling from the air he holds out one huge, six fingered hand to catch her. ~This house is getting stranger and stranger all the time.~ He comments amusedly.

Posted by Changeling on 1/31/2002, 7:44 pm
She nods, That's the truth. she's still a little nervous around the mutant that could force her to regain her true form, and looks away at Joey, wondering what he's thinking about so intensely.

Posted by Twixle on 1/31/2002, 8:07 pm
Twixle she blinked, shook her head to clear her vision and stared up at the demonic mutant in wonder, and perhaps a little fear. "Um...thanks?"

Posted by Various on 1/31/2002, 10:32 pm
Paradox chuckles, ~You're welcome.~ Then he turns to eye the pasta and other food. ~ I think everything's ready, so if you want to herd everyone into the dining room I can start putting stuff out.~ He says this to mostly to Mirage, but allows the others to hear his comment.
Mirage smiles. "Well, you heard him. Dining room is that way." She says pointing in the right direction. She leads the way, heading through an arch to reach the mentioned room. A large table that looks like it could seat at least twelve sits in the middle of the room, surrounded by chairs. "Grab a seat." She suggests, sliding into a chair herself.
Vision drifts in, almost as spaced out as Joey, and absently takes a seat next to Mirage. It was obvious she was lost in thought. Mirage elbows her sister to snap her back into the real world and Vision looks up, faintly startled, then raises an eyebrow at her sister. "We've got company, in case you haven't noticed." The lavender stripped mutant says with a grin. Vision just rolls her eyes, "Gee, I hadn't noticed. Where'd all these people come from anyway?"
It appears they'd left Joey behind. The silver haired teen wanders in a moment after everyone was seated and takes a chair beside Changeling as food starts floating in from the kitchen. There he sits, lost in thought as he tries to figure out why the attention Paradox was paying Changeling bugged him so much. Someone was probably gona have to give him a poke to break him out of his ponderings.
"Show off." Mirage mutters and Vision is forced to hide her smile behind her hand. Huge dishes of pasta and meat sauce make perfect landings on the table, followed by a basket of garlic bread and other food items. Vision's eyebrows rise, she was beginning to agree with Mirage. Paradox really had gone all out.
Kanga hops in a moment after all the food settles. She doesn't even look at those seated at the table, she just grabs a plate from the stack that had floated in and piles some food onto it, then bounces out again without a word. Mirage and Vision blink at each other, exchanging glances. The roo-girl wasn't usually talkative, but that was taciturn even for her.
Paradox smiles in the kitchen, noting the expressions of those around the table. ~I'm sure they wouldn't mind you joining them.~ He comments kindly to Twixle.
"Well, help yourselves." Mirage says, then goes to follow her own advice and grabs a plate and starts filling it with food.

Posted by Changeling on 1/31/2002, 11:12 pm
She smiles and follows Mirage into the dining room, a little surprised to see such a large table for only a few people. She didn't think they usually invited guests, but this proves her wrong... sort of.
She's a little too big and ungainly to sit comfortably in the chairs, so she shifts to a smaller version of her husky-were self, keeping her fur for future cover-ups. When she takes her seat she realizes that Joey's nowhere to be seen and looks around for him franticaly, relaxing when he finally makes an appearance and takes the seat next to her.
She blinks and her eyes go wide when the food floats in. "Lunch?" her voice is as stunned as she feels, and she glances at Mirage with raised eyebrows.
And when was Paradox going to make his appearance? She'd only seen quick glimpses of him in the kitchen, his face and tail mostly. She wonders curiously how he was able to enlarge the servings of pasta and sides so fast for them.
When it was evident that the meal had begun she glances at Joey, notices that he's still lost in thought and prods him in the ribs with a clawed finger before taking up a plate and serving herself the tasty smelling treats. She takes a little more than she thinks she should, but in this form, who knows how much she could eat? And she is hungry.

Most of the time they ate at the smaller table in the kitchen. The dining room was only for large crowds or special events. "I think Paradox went a little overboard." Mirage says with a half sheepish grin. She can't help leaning back to peer into this kitchen, and call a teasing remark. "So what about food for the rest of us?"
~ I'm sorry, didn't I make enough? ~ Paradox sounds apologetic, but there's a hint of laughter running through it. A mental chuckle floats through the room. He stands in the kitchen for a moment longer, then decides that Joey was just gona have to deal with him because he wasn't missing out on all that food. ~Brace yourself people, I'm coming out.~
The silver haired teen blinks and looks up when Changeling pokes him in the ribs, then blinks again as he notices the meal has started. He grabs a plate for himself and adds a bit of food to it. When Paradox comments, Joey flushes faintly, that remark had been directed a him and he knew it. The silver haired teens attention is on his plate when Paradox steps into the room.
The demonic looking mutant ducks to get under the arch, even though there's probably enough room for him to get through without it. His wings are folded against his back like a cloak and his sharp bladed tail trails behind. He has the large toe claw on his raptor feet carefully pulled up so he wouldn't damage the linoleum in the kitchen. After pausing in the doorway for Joey and Changeling to get used to the sight of him he takes a seat in the chair across from Changeling.
One watching Joey at the moment might notice him look up to study Paradox when he takes the seat across from Changeling and then quickly go back to studying his plate.

She waited until Paradox entered the dining room to enter, herself. She felt safe around the demonic mutant--safe from those two pesky cats at least. She eyed the big crowd of people nervously for a few moments before fluttering down to land on the table, eyeing the food that was piled up as high as her own small self, feeling daunted and extremely dwarfed by all the people and food in comparison.

Posted by Changeling on 2/2/2002, 6:17 pm
She pauses when Paradox announces his entrance and looks up to see his large frame in the doorway. She blinks and raises one eyebrow with a slight smile as he takes the seat in front of her, glad once again for fur.
When Twixle enters, she watches her closely. She didn't trust that one as far as she could see her, so all through the meal, she keeps a careful eye the small fairy-like mutant without seeming to.

After looking up once, just after Paradox sits down Joey keeps his eyes on the table. He's not eating much at all, just pushing what little food he had put on his plate from one side to another. He was really trying to hide how agitated he was, and doing a better then average job. The expression on his face, from what one can see of it because his head is turned down, is fairly blank. He didn't want to ruin the meal for the others, especially Changeling.
Mirage eats her food quietly, absently wishing Paradox wasn't such a flirt. She could tell that Joey was rather upset too, but she also knew that the silver haired teen didn't want everyone to know it. The control he had over his emotional spill over surprised her. He didn't seem bright enough to have the concentration needed for such control, but then again there was more to him then she might think. Especially when one considered how he handled the vampire situation. She's still trying to figure out what was nagging her about that.
Paradox helps himself to the food, piling massive amounts on his plate. The remark Mirage made earlier becomes clear, Paradox probably could eat the entire spread if he put his mind to it. He was rather curious about what happened, but wasn't going to ask. He'd let Mirage or Vision do it. After all, Kat was their sister. He eyes Joey for a moment. ~Something wrong with the food?~ He asks the silver haired teen.
Joey looks up startled and faintly red. "Um, no. It's very good.." He mumbles, then goes back to looking at his plate. Now he had to make a show of finishing his food. It was good, but he didn't feel like eating. "I'm just not very hungry.." He says finally.

She looked vaguelly uncomfortable around Changeling. It wasn't that she noticed the looks she was receiving from her, it was more of the knowledge of what she had done and the vamire's reaction to it that was making her uncomfortable. She drifted unconsciously to Joey's side of the table. He had saved her, right?
Trying not to appear too awkward she found an unused serving spoon and began to put her food selections there. Using the spoon as a plate and her fingers as utensils, she proceeded to fill her small stomach.

Posted by Changeling on 2/2/2002, 7:25 pm
Changeling works on her meal, quietly observing Twixle. When it is obvious that she won't try anything, she relaxes and enjoys her meal. The pasta really was good... She doesn't really pay too much attention to the sisters, but she does wonder about Kat. When Kanga had appeared, she'd watched her come and go curiously, but since the kangaroo girl hadn't paid much attention to her, she shrugged it off. Now she wonders if any of them know who she really is. Maybe Kanga was just being her normal self and ignoring her entirely out of spite, or maybe she just hadn't realized that it was the same person sitting at the table that she'd encountered last night at the warehouse. And that brings up the question of whether or not Vision or Mirage know it's really her as well. She keeps her eyes down, but watches each girl in turn for signs of knowledge or ignorance.

Posted by Various on 2/2/2002, 7:32 pm
Kat is still curled up under her covers, with only her tail showing, but she seems to have cried herself to sleep. There's no sound coming from her room.
Mirage is studying everyone around the table. Her glance goes from Joey to Paradox, to rest momentarily on Changeling then shifts to her sister before repeating the pattern. She studies Changeling like she's a puzzle, her glance faintly curious. She had this feeling that she should know who the wolf mutant was, and she couldn't shake it. "So," She starts, wishing she could think up some better topic for conversation, "Do we get to hear the real story, or is it something you'd rather not tell?"
Vision seems to be thinking, her gaze either on her plate or out into space. She eats her food absently. When Mirage speaks it draws her attention back to the table and she studies Joey and Changeling, her ice blue gaze unreadable.

Posted by Twixle on 2/2/2002, 8:30 pm
She watched quietly, taking everything in, (including her food).

Posted by Changeling on 2/2/2002, 8:48 pm
She stops and looks at Mirage closely, unwilling to tell the whole story. She instead looks to Joey, uncomfortable under the eyes of so many.

Posted by Mirage and Joey on 2/2/2002, 9:06 pm
Mirage half sighs as Changeling just looks at her. "So I'll assume it's not a tale you feel like telling?"
Joey's staring at his plate, still shoving food around. It takes him a moment to realize that attention had turned to him. "Wha? Um, maybe you should let Kat tell you?" He suggests.

Posted by Twixle on 2/2/2002, 9:24 pm
Munch, much. Watch, watch.

Posted by Changeling on 2/2/2002, 9:43 pm
She nods, relieved at Joey's suggestion and returns to her meal tentatively.

Posted by Kanga on 2/2/2002, 10:08 pm
Kanga bounces in at high speed and accidenly crashes into the table when she skids to a stop. She gets up, not even noticing the rapidly healing cut on her forehead from the sharp edge of the table. "There's something really wrong with Kat!" Her eyes are huge and worried.

Posted by Twixle on 2/2/2002, 10:21 pm
She looked fairly indignant by the results of the crash. Her "plate" went spilling all over her and presently, she was covered in pasta. Still, Kanga's worry worried her and she paid close attention.

Posted by Changeling on 2/2/2002, 10:38 pm
Changeling looks up quickly when Kanga enters and leaps to her feet at her outburst, already heading toward Kat's room when she suddenly realizes what she's doing.

Posted by Various on 2/3/2002, 6:25 pm
Mirage stands a half second behind Changeling and is right behind her as the half-vamp heads for Kat's room. The spaced out Joey follows a moment later with Vision following shortly after. Paradox looks concerned, but he figures with all of the other people heading towards Kat's room, it'd be best if he and his bulk stay out of the way for the moment. His mental presence drifts beside Changeling as she heads down the hall. Kanga turns tail and follows after Vision, looking worried.

Posted by Twixle on 2/3/2002, 7:04 pm
She hung back as well. It was not really her business. She barely knew Kat. Not only that, but she was covered in pasta and she did not really feel like trailing it all over the place as she would fly to investigate further. So she just settles for listening to what the group says. Their voices are loud enough to carry for her small ears, anyway....

Posted by Various on 2/4/2002, 5:22 pm
Mirage drifts past Changeling, opening the door and stepping inside. Kat is half on half off her bed, covers twisted around her thrashing form. She looks like she's in the grip of a really bad nightmare, but her eyes are open and staring. She seems to be suffering from the same thing that happened earlier. Her pupils are the same bizarre shade of blue as before.
Mirage just stands for a moment, stunned, then steps to her sisters bed and reached out for her power. Vision follows Joey and Changeling in, and stares at her youngest sister, more then a little surprised. Mirage isn't the only one reaching out for her power, Joey is too. After a moment the silver haired teen blinks, looking confused. Paradox's mental presence drifts between the door and Mirage, radiating concern.

Posted by Changeling on 2/4/2002, 5:27 pm
She glances back at the last to enter and catches the look on Joey's face "What is it?" She looks back and forth between the thrashing Kat and confused Joey, wishing she could help, but the onlything that comes to mind would be holding Kat down so she doesn't hurt herself. She's hesitant to do so, however, as it might be taken as a hostile move by the two other girls. She senses Paradox's presence in the room, but the main focus of her attention is on Kat at the moment.

Posted by Mirage on 2/4/2002, 5:33 pm
Mirage blinks and opens her eyes as she picks up a healing talent much greater then her own. She blinks once more, looking around the room. Her gaze finally falls on Joey, and she tilts her head. If the silver haired teen had such an impressive healing talent, why wasn't he doing anything? She'd ask about that later, right now her younger sister needed help. Closing her eyes again she reaches out towards Kat once more, trying to find the source of the problem. When Mirage opens her eyes again her expression is almost as confused as Joey's. Then she realizes Kat's still thrashing she reaches out to grab her arms to stop her younger sister from hurting herself. "I could use some help holding her down.." She says calmly.

Posted by Changeling on 2/4/2002, 5:39 pm
She immediately moves foreward, only waiting for permission to do so. She leans over the bed and holds Kat's shoulders down with large her large paws. "Joey? What's wrong with her?" She sounds faintly irritated, and very confused. Why he couldn't stop whatever it is that's wrong wit Kat.

Posted by Various on 2/4/2002, 5:46 pm
Vision steps foward to help, capturing Kat's legs and restricting their movement. She's faintly surprised by the strength of Kat's convultions. Joey remains where he is, his angel sense of obligation going nuts. He wasn't supposed to forcefully stop anyone from doing anything, but Kat might hurt herself if someone didn't stop her thrashing. He looks relieved when Changeling steps forward to help, and it momentarily obscures the confused expression. Kanga watches from the doorway, looking faintly lost, and Paradox's presence swoops over the bed, studying Kat.
Kat's thrashing continues for a few more moments, then suddenly slows and evetually stops. The cat-girl lives motionless on her bed, the blue of her pupils still standing out from the green of her eyes. When Mirage is sure that she isn't about to start thrashing again, her green gaze turns on Joey. "Are you getting the same thing I am?" She asks, eyebrows raised.
Joey's intelligence is back, and Mirage is faintly disturbed by the quality of the silver haired teens speech. "Assuming that you're getting that there's apartently nothing wrong with her at all, then yes." He answers, studying Kat worriedly.

Posted by Changeling on 2/4/2002, 5:52 pm
She holds Kat's shoulders down on the bed untill the last tremor passes, then gazes at the girls face before backing away slightly and listening to the conversation between Mirage and Joey. She wonders about Mirage's question, considering it a moment begore deciding that she has a healing talent. When Joeys answer registers, she blinks. Nothing wrong... at all? Her clear blue eyes go back to Kat's, and she wonders...

Posted by Various on 2/4/2002, 6:00 pm
Kat's eyes close, and she kinda slumps back into the bed, panting. She doesn't appear to be aware that there is a small crowd of people in her room.
Vision raises an eyebrow at both her younger sister and the silver haired teen. "What? Forgive me for doubting your abilities, but she doesn't seem okay to me."
Joey steps closer, studying Kat. "All I'm getting is that it's a result of her talent, and that's exhausting her.." He frowns absently. "The exhaustion is easy to fix, but I don't know what her power might be.."
Mirage nods absently, thinking hard. She got basically the same thing.

Posted by Changeling on 2/4/2002, 6:11 pm
Changeling listens carefully untill they finish, frowning slightly and remembering what happened earlier. She turns again to Joey when they're silent once again "Joey, what did you two see on the roof?" it could make things more clear, or it could cloud the waters, but something in her long experience tells her that this could be the key to the mystery. Her eyes return to Kat's sleeping form, watching her condition closely.

Posted by Various on 2/4/2002, 6:19 pm
"See on the roof?" Mirage and Vision repeat in unison, eyebrows raised. Mirage obviously finds this quite amusing and glances at her sister, but Vision is too intent on Joey's answer to notice. Paradox and Kanga listen with quiet interest.
"Er, I didn't get much." He says, faintly sheepish. "A silver haired guy with some girl slumped in his arms standing in front of a blazing building. The guy was surrounded in light." He doesn't mention that Kat seemed to think that the guy was him.
Kat seems to have collapsed into sleep again. The same dead to the world state she was in when Changeling carried her home.

Changeling on 2/4/2002
She wishes for her vampiric telepathy, but goes on without mention of it. "What did the girl look like? And the building on fire?" she doesn't comment on the glowing part, having thought that the glimpse she'd caught of the figure standing in the doorway looked an awful lot like Joey. Instead, she focuses on the details, organizing a couple of theories. One, Kat could be telepathic, whish would mean that she was picking up something from Joey's past, or two, she could have a prophetic talent, and that would mean that she saw something in the future concerning Joey and a burning building... either one... She waits to hear Joeys answer, wondering if it would only make the problem more complicated.
She keeps an eye on Kat the whole time, hoping that she'll wake soon.

Various on 2/4/2002
"Kat couldn't see much of the female at all. All's she could see is that it was female.. I couldn't make out much of the building either, the fire and darkness combined makes it hard to make out any detail.." Not to mention the glow of the figure.
Vision raises an eyebrow. "I didn't know you were telepathic, Joey."
"Only sometimes, it comes and it goes.." He answers.

Changeling on 2/4/2002
She nods, taking it into account, and wonders again. This was only going to get more confuzing. The more she thinks about it, the more she wants to hear Kat's side of the story.

Various on 2/4/2002
Mirage still looks lost in thought, then looks down at her younger sister. What she really wanted to do was give her a bit of a energy jolt so she'd wake up and help them out with this, but Mirage supposed it'd really be best if she got over it naturally, with a nap. "Well, Kat looks like she's okay, so maybe it'd be best if we went and finished our supper.."
Kanga pipes up, "I'll stay, if you guys want to go eat."

Changeling on 2/4/2002
She nods reluctantly, not quite ready to leave Kat alone to face the possibility of another attack, then nods in assent when Kanga volunteers to stay behind. She gives Kat one last caring glance before turning to the door.

Various on 2/4/2002
Joey pauses before heading out of the door, the glow rapidly fading from his hands. He's smiling slightly, feeling better now that he'd been able to help, even if it was in a rather small way. When Kat woke up she'd feel like she'd rested a lot longer then she really had.
Mirage studies her younger sister for a moment before turning to leave as well. Paradox's mental presence drifts out of the room, and arrives back at his body. The demonic mutant frowns absently at the food, it'd gotten cold while everyone was helping Kat. A quick flare of fire solves that problem. Vision just looks lost in thought as she turns and heads back to the table.
Kanga settles into the camp chair for the second time that say, watching her friend sleep.

Changeling on 2/4/2002
She makes her way back to the table, lost in a world of her own, and takes her seat again. She smiles at Paradox when she sees that the food was 'still' warm, and picks up her fork to poke at it thoughtfully. She wishes she could stay long enough to see Kat well and awake, but feared becomming a nusance. She remembers last time the sisters got suspcious of her, and didn't want to traumatize them further. She's forgotten her earlier train of thought, whether or not they'd recognised her, and resumes her assumption that they know who she is. The mere fact that they'd invited her to stay for lunch didn't mean that they'd forgiven her. Probably it was only a way of showing gratitude that they wouldn't worry about being sorry for later.
She sighs and takes a bite of her pasta, savoring it's flavor. Once again, the lack of real food for four centuries shows in her obvious joy in tasting a new food.

Various on 2/4/2002
Mirage suddenly remembers something, Joey hadn't introduced his friend. She ponders that for a moment, wondering why she hadn't asked. It takes her a moment to realize that she felt like she knew the wolf mutant, and that's why she hadn't asked. Mirage continues to follow that train of thought. Why did she feel like she knew this woman? She couldn't think of meeting any large canine mutants, and she didn't know many of Joey's friends. Joey himself was barely an aquiantance, a friend of her younger sister's. In fact, the only one of Joey's friends that she knew of was the shape shifting vampire. Maybe she'd met the shape shifting woman someplace else, in another form? When it finally hits her she nearly falls out of her chair laughing at the insanity of it all. If she was right she'd just invited a vampire to dinner!
Vision blinks at her younger sister, only faintly surprised. Mirage did stuff like this all the time. It wasn't unusual to suddenly hear the lavender striped mutants laughter ringing through the house. "Don't mind her.." Vision says sounding amused.
Paradox is quite pleased by Changeling's obvious enjoyment of the food. It was nice to have another person around that actually apreciated fine food.

Changeling on 2/4/2002
Mirage's fit of giggles interrupts her train of thought and she blinks at the girl. What in the world? She raises one furry eyebrow at her curiously. When Vision excuses her sister, Changeling smiles slightly and returns to her supper, wondering what had gotten into her so suddenly.
She finishes the last bite of pasta with relish, wishing she weren't too full for seconds.

Various on 2/4/2002
Actually Mirage is getting raised eyebrows from all over the table. Paradox and Vision turn to raise amused eyebrows at Mirage. The feline mutant is laughing too hard to answer and waves the looks off with a hand. Joey blinks and looks up from his munching on a piece of garlic bread, a kind of 'what's with her?' look on his features.

Changeling on 2/4/2002
Changeling sits back in her chair, head cocked sideways at Mirage, watching the younger catgirl laugh herself silly on the floor. She exchanges a glance with Joey and shrugs 'I dunno...'

Various on 2/4/2002
"I invited a vampire to diner!" Mirage is still giggling uproarisly, but she manages to get that much out. If Changeling really was a blood draining vamp could probably get the feline mutant before she stops giggling and Mirage would die laughing.
Vision had been peering down at her sister, looking amused, but at that comment she blinks, eyeing both Joey and Changeling worriedly. Her eyes were quickly turning green.
Joey blinks, noting Vision's sudden change in eye color worriedly. He had eventually figured out that watching the color of Vision's eyes were a good indication of her mood. She usually couldn't keep the shape shift perfect if she was under stress, and eye color was the first thing to change.
Paradox just raises an eyebrow at Changeling and Joey, looking amused.

Posted by Changeling on 2/5/2002, 4:02 pm
Changeling looks as if she's about to laugh herself, or maybe cry. Had they actually not known her identity? All this time? It is so horribly rediculous that she smiles crookedly at the giggling Mirage, but it's a sad smile. Still in werehusky form, her voice is soft and expressive "All this time, I thought you knew who I was. I suppose I'll have to go now..." She shakes her head and moves to stand, turning her gaze downward "But I don't want to leave you all fearing to sleep... I'm not a vampire..." ...at the moment. she finishes to herself, and to Mirage, Vision and Paradox "...And I won't come back if you don't want me to." Though why they'd ever trust me to keep any kind of promise... her mind is moving in depressing circles, and when she finally looks up, meeting Vision's worried gaze openly, her expressive features are strained, and she almost looks as if she were about to cry, so sorrowful are her clear blue eyes.

Posted by Various on 2/5/2002, 4:58 pm
Mirage giggles for a few more moments, then calms suddenly as she starts picking emotions up from Changeling. Her hands appear on the table first, then the rest of her appears, as if she had to drag herself up. She's somewhat weak and breathless from her fit of laughter. She studies Changeling silently for a moment, head tilted with a thoughtful look on her face as she listens to what her empathic talent is 'telling' her. "Well, the whole wolf shift doesn't exactly match with the hawk shape shift, or what I assume is your real form." She sounds distantly thoughtful, "I suppose that explains why I'm not having an allergy attack." She trails off again, still thinking. There's no anger or fear in her manner, just absent curiousity and thought. She could read what type of mood Changeling was in at the moment, and attacking wasn't in the cards.
Vision is another matter. If she'd been in her real form at the moment her fur would have been standing and her teeth half bared. "I think.." Whatever she'd been about to say is cut off as Paradox clamps a gentle mental hand over her mouth. Vision's eyes go greener as she glares about the table, trying to figure out who'd just done that. It doesn't take her long to figure it out. Paradox is sitting calmly across from Changeling, an eyeridge raised at Vision. The shape shifting mutant snarls mentally and sits to wait it out. Evidently Paradox thought she was being hasty in banishing both of them from her house. The fact that Changeling looks like she might start crying is completely lost on her.
Paradox clamps a mental hand over Vision's mouth, temporarily stopping the banishment that she was about to place on Joey and his female friend. In matters of trust Paradox usually agreed with Vision. Mirage could be just a little nieve and overly trusting, but right now he suspected that the younger sibling might be closer to the mark then the older.
Joey stands silently when Changeling does, his grey eyes filled with varried emotions. He was annoyed with Vision for not giving Changling a chance, but thankful that Paradox had stopped what Vision'd been about to say. The only person that would save this situation would be Mirage, he doubted that Vision would even half listen to anyone but her younger sister. If Vision decided that niether of them could come back, he'd have no choice in the matter, he couldn't stay anywhere he wasn't wanted. The urge to wrap a wing around Changeling is particularly strong, but he resists it.

Posted by Changeling on 2/5/2002, 5:21 pm
She turns to watch the younger of the two sisters appears back at the table, a look of weary remorse in her eyes. When Mirage speaks, Changeling nods sheepishly "I don't suppose it is... but it was the best form that leapt to mind..." she doesn't want to think of what had happened earlier, so she finishes with barely a pause "...for flying Kat home." She's a little curious what Mirage's having (or not having) an allergy attack had to do with her, but decides not to ask. The situation she's gotten Joey and herself into this time is precarious enough already. Slowly, so as not to alarm either of the two sisters, she shifts back to her human form, ending up in her usual dark cloak. Something in the back of her mind reminds her not to look at Paradox (especially now that she is human and more likely to blush visibly), so she keeps her eyes and mind focused on Mirage. She'd glanced at Vision when the elder sister suddenly stoped, but looked away quickly. She's not surprised at the anger she'd seen in Vision's face, but it does tend to make her feel that there was little hope of salvaging any semblance of tolerance.

Posted by Various on 2/5/2002, 5:31 pm
Mirage nods absently, still thinking. The fact that everyone was waiting on pins and needles for her comments doesn't seem to occur to her.
"A winged wolf?" Vision asks, one eyebrow raised.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Kanga studies her friend's still form for a long moment before slouching more comfortably into the chair. She expected it'd be quite awhile before Kat woke up. Therefore she's surprised when the cat-girl opens her eyes a few minutes later. She blinks, faintly worried that this was the onset of another one of Kat's bizarre attacks. When the green mutant doesn't start thrashing, and simply spends a few moments staring at the ceiling, Kanga risks speaking out loud. "Kat?"
The cat mutant's gaze turns to her. "What?"
Kanga is glad to note that her eyes are back to their normal coloring. "What did you see that time?" The roo-mutant asks her friend. She'd been following the conversation of the adults and put two and two together.
Kat turns her back to Kanga and closes her eyes, she didn't think Kanga wanted to know what she saw. She wouldn't like it, not with that silly crush she had on Joey. Why did Kanga even want to know? How had she even found out about it? What she really wanted to know was where the heck the images she was getting were coming from.
Kanga cocks an ear, listening to the explosion of noise from the dining room. She blinks when she hears what's going on. She wasn't sure whether to be thrilled or annoyed. If Vision booted Eliza from the house, Kanga wouldn't have to deal with her as much, but Vision would most likely banish both Joey and Eliza, and Joey hadn't done anything. Well, aside from bringing Eliza to the house in the first place.
Kat blinks at her friends expression. "What's going on?" She blinks again and stands before Kanga even answers. She's annoyed with how shaky she felt, but she couldn't let Vision ban Joey and Eliza from the house.
Kanga blinks at her friend, she'd been about to answer 'Vision figured out who the wolf was.' but she hadn't got the chance.

Posted by Changeling on 2/5/2002, 5:47 pm
She is back to staring at the ground, and shrugs ever-so-slightly when Vision asks about the form "It was strong..." is all she says, but the images of why she'd been in the husky form at all refuse to be banished. Her memory of those moments replay in her mind, and her eyes slowly grow more helpless as she's caught up again in it. No one's safe around me... Not Kat, not even Joey... Vision and Kanga are right to hate me... Nothing but trouble... she fights back the tears that threaten, blinking repeatedly at the floor. She's still standing, and since her excellent hearing faded with the shift, she doesn't hear what's going on in Kat's room.
Almost, she wishes she could just tell the story and get it over with, but no. That would only condemn her. Especially the fact that she'd turned vamp and nearly attacked Kat's foster prents. She might have been absent from the human race for a while, but she suspects that those particular facts would only make more trouble for not only she and Joey, but Kat as well. Yes, she'd seen the way Vision and Kat had gotten along together at the diner, and befriending a vampire would probably not promote her in her eldest sisters eyes.

Posted by Various on 2/5/2002, 6:00 pm
"Ah." Is Vision's short reply to that answer.
Mirage seems to snap out of it, and Vision and Paradox look up enquiringly. "Any more of that garlic bread?" She asks cheerfully. A short mental laugh comes from Paradox while Vision merely rolls her eyes. Mirage wondered why she made such a convincing dumb blond, it was times like this that Vision really would have loved to show to her. Paradox floats a piece to Mirage, looking faintly amused. The lavender stripped mutant thanks him, and starts munching on it as she goes back to thinking.
Joey is studying Changeling, looking concerned. He really wanted to wrap an wing around her, but he wasn't sure how that action would be taken by any of those watching, or Changeling either for that matter. He looks up when he hears someone coming down the hall, and then blinks as Kat comes into the room, pausing for a moment to frown at the gathering as she leans on the doorframe. Kat turns to raise an eyebrow at Vision. "Don't be silly."
Paradox, Mirage, Joey and Vision all blink. "What?" Mirage asks after a moment, sounding confused. Had she missed something? Vision raises an eyebrow at her younger sister, waiting for an explaination.
Kat blinks at everyone like they're a bit dense. "Vision said that it looked like I had a new talent. I told her not to be silly."
Mirage blinks. "Um, Kat? Vision didn't say anything."

In the silence, she hugs herself, wishing desperately for some kind of comfort. Had Joey actually hug her with his wing, she'd probably have started crying. But at the moment, she's beyond tears, lost in depression.
She hardlt hears when Mirage speaks, but the footsteps in the hall snap her from her downward spiral and she looks up quickly. When she sees who it is, she nearly faints with relief. However, when Kat comments about something no one else had heard she also blinks, and her face clouds with worry again, then thought. An interesting few emotions to watch replacing eachother within the space of a few seconds. She remains silent, waiting to see not only the judgement, but what Kat has to say.

Kat just blinks looking at Mirage like she was crazy, or deaf maybe. She'd clearly heard Vision's comment. "Right." Is all she says as she sits down at the table and grabs another plate, she was hungry.
Kanga, who'd been slightly behind the cat-girl, also takes a seat at the table. She bounds into the seat beside her cousin, the one across from Joey. She doesn't look at Changeling, just skipping over her like she's not there as she scans the table.
Joey blinks at Kat, but his concern is mostly for Changeling at the moment. Kat's situation was weird, but it wasn't like she was becoming more depressed by the moment, unlike Changeling. He wished he could do something! Anything!
Mirage blinks, concerned by both Kat's strange behavior and Changeling's depression. "You two might as well sit down.." She says to both Joey and Changeling. "I have stuff I want to ask. She waits until Kat finishes eating before she starts pestering her with questions.

She nods, faintly relieved, and re-takes her seat. She notes Kanga's ignoring her, but pays it no mind, since she'd most likely never find good grace with the girl. Her thoughts at the moment are in a curious kind of suspention, not quite thinking of anything at all. She keeps her eyes down again, wondering what kind of questions Mirage would ask.

The first thing Mirage does is ask Kat to tell her story. It takes the young mutant a moment to start, but she gets through the tale, adding in her strange little fit because she figured that they'd already seen it once, but leaving out what she saw. She didn't have as much trouble with calling her former foster parents by their names this time.
Mirage,Vision and Paradox just blink when the tale is done, obviously needing a moment to think things over. They'd remained silent through the entire thing, letting Kat get through it without interuption.
Joey listens just as silently, studying Changeling worriedly every once and awhile.

As Kat tells the tale, she listens, lost in memory. The scene plays before her eyes, and she's a little surprised when Kat's telling of it isn't as damaging as she thought it would be. Her eyes had wandered from the tabletop to Kat's face, and she smiles ever-so-slightly at her, reassuingly.

"Joey talked about picking an image up from you when you um.... on the roof." Mirage skips over what she'd been about to say. "Did you get any pictures this time?"
Kat's ears flick back in the only version of a embaressed blush that actually shows on her feline features. Vision, Paradox and Mirage (who'd also caught it through her empathy) are rather amused. "So are you planning to tell us?" Mirage asks. Kat shakes her head. "Not a chance."

She remains silent, quietly curious but unwilling to break into the conversation.
