The club was
established to house meetings for those involved in 12-step
recovery programs, such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Al-Anon,
Co-Dependents Anonymous, and Narcotics Anonymous. It was in
1990 that community members sympathetic to those in recovery
decided to launch a search for a central spot for such groups
to meet.
Charter members
believed such a site could serve two purposes. First, they
believed those in recovery would benefit from the stability
of having a site they could call "home". Also, they believed
people in recovery regardless of their addiction or problem -
could draw on the strength of each other.
The club's
charter members began a search for a meeting site and decided
on the former American Legion at 218 Apperson Way North.
Those members and other volunteers donated several - to say
the least - hours toward renovating the building, which had
stood vacant for several years.
