As consoles age and
slowly drift their way towards obsolescence, they often experience a surge
of games geared towards younger teenagers and children. Theoretically,
older gamers move on to the more expensive "next-generation" systems and
pass along their aging consoles to younger siblings. Ecco
Jr. was released for the Sega Genesis rather late in the
console's life span and was a respectable adventure title for younger gamers.
The 32x version of Ecco Jr. was almost certainly based on
the Genesis game and was an unexpected choice for the supposed next-generation
console, especially since a game based on the the original Ecco the
Dolphin was also scheduled for release.
