Video games based on the profession of fire fighting are a decidedly rare breed. Fire fighting would seem to be a natural basis for a video game, as it encompasses many of the qualities that are commonly found in games. There is a strong sense of danger, tons of excitement, a high level of athleticism, and loads of fire and explosions. Sega's own Burning Rangers (for the Saturn) is an awesome 3-D adventure game based around futuristic fire fighters, proving that the genre is ripe for exploration. Before Burning Rangers, Sega attempted another game that revolved around fire fighting, but the results were decidedly mixed. With Fahrenheit, Sega choose the Full Motion Video route, combining live action sequences with "quickly push a button" gameplay. Much like the arcade classic Dragon's Lair, success or failure depends on your ability to push a button quickly, as well as your tolerance for playing the same sequence over and over until you get it right. The acting is cheesy (one of the game's better points) and the graphics are grainy, though the visuals are considerably cleaner than the Sega CD version (which is also included.) You probably won't spend much time with this one, really. It's one of those games that you pop in, mess around with for a minute, then put back into its case, never to be played again. Sounds good to us.

The packaging for Fahrenheit is unique among video games. Since all of the other 32x CD games were based on pre-existing Sega CD releases, Sega and Digital Pictures re-released the 32x versions in their own packaging. Both versions of Fahrenheit were finished at the same time, and Sega choose to combine both games into one package to save on production costs. The Sega CD game (disk 1) serves as the "boot disk" and must be loaded up first before the 32x version (disk 2) can be played, meaning that you MUST have both disks in order to play the 32x game. Both games are identical, save for sharper video and more colors in the 32x game. Fahrenheit is the only 32x game packaged in the Sega CD/Saturn plastic case.
