The 32x was the first
Sega console to offer developers enough power to construct real 3-D worlds
out of polygonal models (previous generations used sprite-based graphics
to build pseudo 3-D facsimiles.) U.S. Gold selected Thunder
Strike 2 to serve as a test bed for a new 3-D helicopter
game. Originally appearing as a highly-rated Sega CD shooter, Thunde
Strike 2 was to feature a variety of mission objectives and aircraft.
Unfortunately, the 32x market took a nosedive and the game was canceled.
It was later ported to the PSX and Saturn and may have utilized some code
from the 32x version.
