Brooklyn, Black Chocolate Stout, 8.7% ABV
This American stout tastes like liquorice, along with tones of bitterness, which give way somewhat in the finish to burnt toast flavours. It is in the aftertaste that the strength becomes all to evident, making it difficult to go down, especially given its porter-like heaviness. The texture is earthy, pleasantly warming you up inside. The brew emits scents of charcoal and oak. This highly carbonated beer has a head that is bubbly and lacy. It is medium-dry and full-bodied. Given it’s other merits, the chocolate tones could have made it a superb beer, but they are constantly suppressed by the bitterness. Overall, without meaning to sound sexist, this a real man’s stout – it’ll put hairs on your chest!
