Bucanero Palma Cristal, 4.9% ABV

This little gem from Cuba says good things about the country’s beer-making skills. I only hope all their beers are like this one. It’s only a pilsner/lager type straw beer, but it’s so much more too. The first time I had it, I thought the flavour was unique, with tastes that I couldn’t identify. It’s definitely lemony, as well as a bit earthy. It has a fizzy aftertaste, containing juicy hops and a slight orange character. The texture is fizzy lemons. It reminded me of the French beer, Desperados. The head is not much to talk of, being very thin, eventually dissipating to a ring, leaving some lacing. Through it emerges musty scents of rice, lemon and candy. The beer is medium-dry to medium-sweet, with not too much fizz, and little to average body. A great refreshing beer with plenty of positive attributes!
