Huyghe, Fruli Apple, 4.1% ABV

If you’re after a complex beer with depth of character, then this certainly isn’t it. That’s not to say I fault this beer; it’s wonderful, extremely tasty, and well worth a try! Apples dominate the flavour and finish. Guess what the aroma is of… Yes, apples! The mouthfeel is of… apples. The light golden colour bears a barely visible cloudy hue. This is a very sweet beer, with little body, and almost no fizziness. It is one easy-going beer - like an alcoholic apple juice. Fruli is actually Huyghe’s range of fruit wheat beers, setting them apart from its Floris range of standard fruit beers. I prefer the Fruli to the Floris, I must say.

Huyghe, Fruli Banana, 4.1% ABV

I would say that the Banana-flavoured Fruli is better than the Apple (and perhaps even the strawberry, but I won’t go quite that far yet). This has very slightly more character than Fruli Apple, but my preference for it probably has a lot to do with my particular partiality for anything flavoured with bananas. The appearance of this beer is that it is straw-coloured (with an almost vanishingly cloudy aspect), topped by a smooth bubbly head. Extreme banana bursts forth in the taste and aftertaste, leaving a candy feel in the finish. The aroma and texture are dominated by bananas. It has a lot of sweetness, but little body, and not much carbonation. I’m looking forward to seeing more fruit beers in Huyghe’s Fruli range.
