Kasparus Van Oranje, 5% ABV
The oranges referred to in the naming of this Dutch beer refer more to the use of rind, I think, than the fruit itself. It has rindy undertones, which manifest particularly in the bouquet. The flavour is sweet, with some fruit, and malt is evident. The aftertaste contains oranges. It is smooth and juicy in the mouth, and it has a patchy, though persistent head of froth. It is a mid-golden beer, with a strong cloudy hue. Van Oranje is a medium-bodied beer, with moderate sweetness and fizz. I imagine that Kasparus is a very small Dutch brewer, as the label of this beer is very simplistic – black ink on orange background, in a basic design. I’d be interested to see more of what this brewery has to offer.
