Marks and Spencer, Blanche, 5% ABV
Brewed in Belgium for Marks and Spencer, Blanche is one smooth brew. The wheat is evident in the taste, bringing forth extreme lemon. What follows is a long, fresh aftertaste, in which the lemon hints are ever-present. The bubbly head of froth remains until the very end, leaving lacing on the sides of the glass. Through this emerges a very pleasant wheat bouquet. Smooth, fresh, and juicy in the mouth, this is a full-bodied beer, with moderate sweetness and fizz. Perfectly selected.
Marks and Spencer, Etoile d'Or, 5% ABV
Sold in 330ml bottles within a four pack at Marks and Spencer superstore, this beer is brewed in Belgium, and is indeed a cut above what you might expect from an imported pilsner/lager. Overall, it is a refreshing brew with medium body and moderate sweetness and fizz. Refreshing lemons are present in the taste, with some bitterness. The bitterness evaporates in the aftertaste, leaving undertones of candy. Its head dissipates, leaving patchy streaks. The hops used (I don’t know which hops) give a lemon, hoppy aroma. Smooth in the mouth, this is a wonderfully refreshing beer with satisfying character.
