Mongozo is an African brewery second to none, with its range of wonderful, original beers. This one is no exception. It has a somewhat sour character, accentuated mostly in the aftertaste and the aroma, with a hint of it in the first taste, which is also slightly sharp. The sharpness gives way to fruit in the finish, leaving a warming mouthfeel to the beer. Malt scents also emerge from the smooth head of froth. This is full-bodied, with medium sweetness, and just little enough fizz to allow the flavour to take full reign. It is described on the bottle as a “fair trade” beer.
Mongozo Banana is inevitably a fantastic South African beer. Straight away, it comes across as very sweet, with some surprising wheaty notes. The aftertaste is quite creamy. Bananas dominate the smell, along with a very small measure of wheat.
This Mongozo beer is medium-bodied and has a sweet, fruity texture. It is advertised on the battle as a fair trade beer. Either way, it's an impressive fruit beer.
