Newcastle Brown, 4.7% ABV
Newcastle Brown is nutty but nice. This world-famous brown beer gives out hints of bitterness in the flavour, but rather than overwhelm the palate, they complement the wonderful taste, finishing smooth and malty in the aftertaste. Beneith the undulating bubbly head of froth lies a nutty scent, although not incredibly strong. Quite an easy beer to go down, with smooth, while at the same time almost zesty mouthfeel and bitter-malt palate. Newcastle Brown is the most famous English real ale in many regions of Britain and is known throughout the world. Congratulations to this tasty brown beer for helping keep the British real ale industry alive and well, despite the efforts of money-hungry mass-producing lager companies.
The Newcastle Star, 7.5% ABV
This fanstastic, strong, English beer immediately imposes a sugary sweetness on the palate, along with a certain yeastiness there too. Newcastle Star is the big brother of the famous Newcastle Brown Ale. It develops some buttery notes in its flavour later on during the tasting, with a very sugary aftertaste. It is most certainly in the aftertaste where the alcohol strength is most noticeable.
Newcastle Star is a medium-bodied, extremely sweet and sugary beer throughout, with a foamy, persistent head of froth that forms thick, foamy layered lacing around the glass. It gives out a bouquet of sweet malt, alcohol spice, yeast and butterscotch. Nectar of the gods, rich and flavoury. Great for a sweet tooth like mine.
