T'Ij Ijwit, 7% ABV

A full-bodied, moderately carbonated beer from the brewery with the dreaded ostrich on the label. I say “dreaded,” because the first time we had T’Ij beers, many years ago, I drew the short straw and had the strongest one, and was sick in the ladies toilets. Ever since, the ostrich has become a bit of a steer-clear symbol. Nevertheless, T’Ij beers are truly amazing brews.

The wheat beer is medium-sweet, with tones of honey and lime in the flavour, with an amazing aftertaste. Through the smooth, though thin, head emerges a lime bouquet, that is succeeded by a juicy, sweet texture in the mouth. T’Ij actually means “the egg”, in Dutch. I’ve got no idea why, but definitely get your hands of some of these great beers, brewed right in the heart of Amsterdam (in a brewpub, I believe). Its other beers are far better than this one, but then, I’m not too partial to wheat beers.
