An English beer of great popularity - and rightly so! The flavour begins bitter, but not overbearingly so, for it finishes rather malty. The head is nice and bubbly, concealing a bittery aroma. The carbonation is evident in the mouthfeel.
Golden Zest speaks for itself. What a perfect summer beer! (Although feel free to enjoy it any time of year.) The taste is pretty much juicy from start to finish, with hints of fruit coming through in the mouthfeel. The appearance of this refreshing beer lies somewhere between straw and copper, with a thin, spotty head. The smell is somewhat candy, although it isn't prominent.
A saintly beer available exclusively from Sainsbury's supermarket. The appearance of this beer is copper-coloured, with a good persistent head of froth. The aroma is standard, with undertones of hops, but the taste is quite impressive, containing a fruity flavour complemented by bitterness. The fruit becomes hoppy in the finish, and a satisfyingly long aftertaste it is, the hops concentrated mainly on the palate.
Champion Live Golden might be confused with Golden Zest, but is quite a different beer. The flavour is average, quite sharp. The aftertaste is long, containing a hop fruitiness. The colour is somewhere between straw and copper, with a head of froth that bears the ressemblence of cloud cover. Its best facets are its mouthfeel and wonderful aroma, in which a flowery scent can be detected. Despite its clarity, it has an appearance reminiscent of Hefeweizen. A relatively inoffensive beer.
Elysium has got to be by far the tastiest Young’s beer out there. I first came across it in Sainsburys, and have returned several times for more! The taste is exquisite – floral, with an exotic flavour of oranges. The orangy taste rides through into the finish, and into the scent. This is a full bodied beer with moderate carbonation and straw texture. The head of froth is bubbly and lacy. It’s remarkably easy to go down, as well, making it the ultimate summer beer, almost like an alcoholic orange juice, but nevertheless a lovely wholesome beer.
