The Jungle Book
by Rudyard Kipling
Lord Robert Baden-Powell, called B.-P. for short, started Scouting in Britain
in 1907. From his experience as a General in the British army, B.-P. had
discovered that children could be trusted to do important jobs once they had
been shown what to do. B.-P. had written a book for adults about camping
and survival and and called it "Aids to Scouting. In 1907, he decided to
write a similar book about Scouting for children. It was an instant success!
Scouting became so popular, that by 1916 he had to write a second book for
younger children who wanted to join Scouting . B.-P. called this second book,
"The Wolf Cub's Handbook". The Cub Handbook was based on Rudyard Kipling
"The Jungle book. And so Wolf Cubs Started.
