Along with the Type 61 Main Battle Tank, the Jet Core Booster formed the backbone of the Earth Federation's non-mobile suit forces. Designed for heavy-duty bombing and shooting down aircraft, Jet Core Boosters do

without too much trouble. The Type 61 mounts a pair of heavy duty 150mm cannons, capable of punching large holes in the high-tensile steel armor of Zeon mobile suits. To provide cover against aircraft or to confuse mobile suits, a Type 61 is also equipped with eight smoke dischargers. These weapons fire a grenade into the air which detonates into a cloud of (pink?!) smoke, blocking the enemy's visual targeting. Also included is a small 12.7mm machine gun for mowing down infantry at close range. not house the large caliber weapons necessary to destroy Zeon mobile suits. Rather, the JCB mounts a pair of rapid-fire 25mm machinecannons in its nose and a vulcan cannon in the left fuselage, built with downing aircraft in mind. For bombing missions, Jet Core Boosters can carry a number of large bombs into combat, housed externally on the fighter's undercarriage racks. These heavy weapons are ideally suited for destroying bunkers and reinforced fortifications, but can't really do much against mobile suits for the fact that the bombs can be dodged by a mobile target.
