One Song
I started writing this song at the end of a mock exam, I think it was RE.  Like so many of my endevours it ended up nothing like how I intended it to be.  A couple of nights before I had heard the band 'Catalyst', great band - great front man.  Some of their songs are a bit too heavy for my taste, but this one - 'Today' just stirred something in me.  I made up my mind to write a rock song.  The line I thought up, "When the shit hits the fan and don't come back" ended up being completely got rid of.  I got the verses though, just being annoyed at the exam, and there are a couple of biblical referances.  Only the first verse got written in the exam though.

The next verse was the hardest.  I was at home, I'd worked out the chords and I was struggling for inspiration.  Lying on my bed I spotted a video - Dogma.  A really great film.  First line of the second chorus - "Dogmatic law just leads me on".

I'm then reminded of the "His Dark Materials" trilogy by Phillip Pullman, which has a lot to do with God, and this gave me the inspiration for the rest of the verse.  The rest of the song, except the last verse isn't so much inspired by events as continuous thoughts, and is pretty self explanitory.

The last verse brings out my insecurities about my first gig, where I played this song.  It isn't modesty, I've never had a singing lesson or guitar lesson and I don't flatter myself that I'm any good.  I do this because I enjoy it - and its a useful cash income every now and again.
