Moomins Page

You either got linked to here from the TV and OAV page or the Rated and Reccomended page, well anyway this page was set up simply to explain why there are two ratings for the Moomins TV series. Well as you can see, i utilized the opertunity to create a page exclusivly dedicated to the Moomins, and display some of the Moomins pictures from my personal collection. The pictures are from original Moomintroll novels, with exceptions of the Porch Painting (right) and the Painting of Snufkin Leaving (bottom).
Both series are directly based on, or and appendage of the original story books by Finnish author Tove Jansson (her coherant ability to create detailed fantasy worlds and characters has be parraleled with the likes of Tolkien and Kipling). The Stories were then adopted by a team of Japanese anime writers and animators, and henceforth the Animated series.
The problem was that, to my understanding, the first series was created using the Fantasy defined stories (probably why it was better  than the second series) so it concentrated on the magic and mystery in Moomin Valley. The second series, of which i've seen, concentrates on the character oriantated stories by Tove, although these stories had promising interest, with character history, more in-depth studies of their personalities etc, it was badly handled, and turned out to very mediocre, with only the odd shining light.
The style differances between the two series is quite apparant,

the animation went from fairly artistic, accompanied with subtle use of colour, to very mainstream western, bright and bold colours, very sterile. The voice artist also changed slightly. Due to these acute differances i have rated them seperately (something i hope to do with Sailor Moon at some point).
