Salvation Q & A

Why is the Bible written?

I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. (1 John 5:13 )

For we do not write to you anything you cannot read or understand. (2 Corithians 1:13-14)

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that man is thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at  and our hands have touched -- this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it ...We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard...(John 1:1-3)

We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eye-witnesses of his majesty. (1 Peter 1:16)

I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, it seemed good also to me to write an orderly accound for you...so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught. (Luke 1:3-4)

And God spoke all these words (Exodus 20:1).

What authority does it possess?

All Scripture is God-breathed... (2 Timothy 3:16)

For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. (Hebrews 4:12-13)

What are the other competitions of the Bible (the other supposed God's will over men)?

There is a way that seems right to a man but in the end it leads to death. (Proverbs 14:12)

See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow  and deceptive philosophy, which depends

on human tradition and the basic principles of the worlds rather than Christ. (Colossians 2:8)

...you have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions... Thus you nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. (Mark 7:9-13)

Why do you suppose men prefer these other sources?

For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. (Timothy 4:3)

...because it discloses the reality of man's condition:

2 Timothy 3:2 (man is unholy)

Romans 3:23 (men are sinners)

Psalms 39:5 (men in its best state, empty)

Jeremiah 27:19 (deceitful heart)

...because it exposes the things where men wallow in:

But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment...But anyone who says, 'You fool!' will be in danger of the fire of hell. (Matthew 5:21-22)

...But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. (Matthew 5:27-30)

A false witness will not go unpunished and he who pours out lies will not go free. (Proverbs 19:5)

...If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and now am here. I have not come on my own; but he sent me. Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there John  there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. (John 8:42-45)

You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them; for I, the Lord your God , am a jealous God... (Exodus 20:4)

...because it describes man's destiny apart from God's will:

For the wages of sin is death...(Romans 6:23)

Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment... (Hebrews 9:27)

But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after the killing of the body, has the power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him. (Luke 12:5)

What is the picture after judgment:

Luke 16:26 (irreversible judgment)

Matthew 5:22  (fiery place)

Mark 9:43 (place of unceasing fire)

Luke 16:23 (place of torment)

Jude 13 (place of darkness)

Matthew 8:11-12 (place of weeping)

...into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. (Matthew 25:41)

Can God really send us there?

The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation. (Exodus 34:6-7)

But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear. (Isaiah 59:2)

What is God's original plan for man?

God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created him. (Genesis 1:27)

For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be first born among many brothers. (Romans 8:29)

For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. (I Thessalonians 5:9)

Who is God's Son?

...Christ Jesus: Who being, in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death - even death on the cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the father. (Philippians 2:6-11)

Matthew 16:16 (according to Peter)

John 20:28 (according to Thomas)

Ephesians 4:32 (according to Paul)

Mark 1:11 (according to the God)

...the only mediator to the Father

For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all men - the testimony given in its proper time. (1 Timothy 2:5-6)

...the only way to the Father

Jesus answered, " I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."       (John 14:6)

...the only Savior

Salvation is found in no one else, there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved. (Acts 4:12)

...what he did?

1 Peter 3:18/ John 19:30/ Romans 5:8 (died in our place)

1 Corithians 15:3-6 (resurrected to fulfill His promises)

Jesus As The Savior

Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your

faith and hope are in God. (1 Peter 1:21)

Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God...(John 1:12)

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again. (John 3:1-8)

I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life. (John 5:24)

...I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. (John 10:10)

That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord'" and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9-10)

Jesus As Lord

Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.  Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord , did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evil doers.' (Matthew 7:21-23)

Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice...(1 Samuel 15:22)

Remember therefore what you have received and heard; obey it, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you...I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm - neither hot nor cold - I am about to spit you out of my mouth. (Revelations 3:3, 15)

I want to know Jesus more.
