June 11, 2001:
It is now 12:30 a.m., Monday morning, the conclusion to a very strange weekend.  My parents left Thursday morning to attend the annual family reunion.  I enjoy the family reunion about as much as I enjoy being beaten to death with a metal rod, so they graciously permitted me to stay here and take care of the house and my dog.  You may have heard about tropical storm Allison laying the smack down on Louisiana and Texas this past week; rest assured that Morgan City got its fair share.  It was nothing like Houston, but it was pretty bad.  I awoke Saturday morning to find that my house had become water-front property.  The street had become a flowing river, and I saw one of my neighbors, the superintended of schools, floating down the street in a canoe.  I rushed outside to save my car, which was parked near the street, from certain inundation; the water was already up to the door on the passenger's side because our property slopes downward.  After parking the car as high as I could in the driveway, I proceeded to call my parents at the reunion and inform them of the current situation.  The rain was falling so hard you could hardly see across the street; it had been doing so for hours before I woke up and continued until about noon.  Evidently, the pump that is supposed to drain our subdivision in a situation like that has broken down, so auxiliary pumps were installed on the levee.  Finally the rain abated and the water receded from my yard.  My parents came home a day early, and the rain started up again, once again turning my street into a river.  This second flooding was not quite as bad, thankfully.  Now, it appears that the worst is behind us; however, I now must look forward to mowing my rain-drenched, thick-as-a-jungle lawn as soon as possible.

In other news, the summer has permitted me the time I was desperately wanting to write my book.  I have also been playing a lot of Ultima Online.   Currently, Borel, my warrior, is mere inches away from becoming a Grandmaster Warrior and Swordsman, and I have been working also on my Ranger, Alerra, and my new Fighter/Mage, Atropos.  I have also had time to get back into pen-and-paper role playing with my friends.  Luckily, someone else has stepped forward to fill the position of Dungeon Master that I left vacant when I left, so I am now free to be a mere player and give her the hell she gave me when I was the DM.  Just kidding.  I would probably be doing any one of the above mentioned activities, or sleeping, right now if not for one of my friends, Jessica.  She has finally updated
her webpage, and I cannot allow her to one-up me on updates :)
