Inspiration

This page lists events and places that should inspire you to go and take pictures. Please if you have any suggestions please let me know.

Photographing Motor Racing

Not all photographers sit quietly in the still of dawn's light, broken only by the chatter of birds heralding the day's break. Some need the growl of the V8, the scream of the two stroke so go to Mallory park racing circuit. In many places you are close enough to the action to need only a 200 lens or less, and a 400 will fill the frame from most of the vantage points. Free access to the Paddock on most race days and your car can be parked around the circuit. Click here for full details of the circuit.

Curbar Edge

Situated in the Peak District about 1 hours drive from Loughborough. A walk along the top of the edge with rocks and the odd mill stone and views out and across the valley. It is open for public access and can get a bit busy on Sundays or holidays. The cliff faces more or less due west so should be good for evening, sunset shots. The link below is to the small car park (Pay and Display).

Stanton Moor

Wild moor land with small old disused quarries. The moor land is covered with heather and crisscrossed with paths. Coming from Birchover there is a car park for the quarry company which seems to be used by all and sundry on a weekend. From the car park there is a path going down into the valley, also walking on up the road on your right there is paths off on to the high moor itself.

Lea Gardens

One of my all time favourites is Lea Gardens, Lea, Matlock Derbyshire DE4 5GH. Open early April - end June, but at their best, I think, from late May to end June, these azalea & rhododendron gardens are outstanding. As their publicity says, Lea Gardens is "....the place where rainbows grow!" Highly recommended. (Brian)
