"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to join these two men in holy matrimony. " The priest continued, but Heero wasn’t listening, he knew what was expected of him. Instead he gazed into the beautiful violet eyes before him. Remembering all their times together, wondering what the future held for them, secure in the knowledge that whatever happened, Duo would be by his side.

"Please join hands, so we may continue…" the priest droned on, but Heero’s mind was drawn to the slight pressure of Duo’s warm grip. Memories burst across his mind.
*** *flash* Duo supporting him, after rescuing him from the Alliance medical facility. *flash* Duo extending a hand to help Heero from the cockpit of Wing after a particularly bad mission. *flash* Duo kissing him tentatively one night, thinking that Heero was asleep. *flash* Duo embracing him when they reunited after Heero’s attempted self-destruction. *flash* Duo kissing him, a real kiss, for the first time. *flash* Duo sitting on a bed, his hair matted, trying vainly to detangle the mass, then allowing Heero to take the brush. ***

"Matrimony has long been held as a sacred institution. By accepting the vows of marriage, you pledge yourself to each other, forsaking all others, that you may only find solace in your mate.." The priest continued explaining what marriage meant, but Heero knew, after all, he’d proposed.
***Heero had spent days trying to get everything just right, ‘Tonight has to be perfect for Duo.’ They went to a small Italian diner, Heero knew what Duo would order, pizza - everything on it, extra sauce, extra cheese - and beer - a dark German brand. He’d called ahead, and reserved the terrace so that they could have some privacy, it cost quite a bit, but Duo was worth every penny.
After they had finished their dinner and been serenaded by the owner of the establishment on his violin, the song was a beautiful old melody that Heero had later learned was called "Amazed", he slid from his chair, knelt down on one knee, raised his eyes to Duo and asked, "Will you marry me?" while sliding a ring up to the second knuckle of Duo's third finger of his left hand.
Duo had just nodded, speechlessly, tears welling in his eyes.***

"Heero, do you take this man, Duo Maxwell, to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer, ‘til death do you part?"
"I do." Heero said, holding Duo’s eyes with his gaze.
"I always will." He whispered just barely loud enough for Duo to hear.

"Duo, do you take this man, Heero Yuy, to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer, ‘til death do you part?"
"I do," Duo answered. Unable to control his emotions, a single tear spilled down Duo’s cheek. Heero reached up and wiped it away.
"The ring is an outward symbol of your inward commitment. It is a perfect circle, there is no beginning and no end, symbolizing the eternal commitment you are starting today. These rings are made out of a precious metal, symbolizing the importance of this commitment…" The priest continued, but Heero was remembering one of the most precious gift he’d ever been given.
***He had never expected the slight pilot to return his feelings. Then one night, Heero had nearly been asleep, when he felt a slight pressure on his lips. Duo’s kiss had sent electrifying jolts through his body and he’d reacted instantly. One arm had gently restrained the slight pilot, but Duo sensed that he wouldn’t get away.
"Why?" Heero asked. Duo struggled and managed to get his face hidden, but Heero would not loosen his grip.
"I wanted you to be my first kiss." Duo whispered, his voice small and broken. Heero’s free hand came up, cupped Duo’s chin and forced him to return the steady cobalt gaze.
"If you wouldn’t mind, I would like to remember my first kiss as well." Heero said.***
Heero pulled out a ring and began to slide it over Duo’s finger. "With this ring, I, thee wed." he vowed.
Duo slid his ring over Heero’s finger, "With this ring, I, thee wed." he vowed.
The priest motioned them to turn around. "I now present to you Misters Duo and Heero Maxwell-Yuy, husbands to each other, and mates for life. May God guard well and strengthen their love."
