Patty DePooter:

Patty DePooter, Littleton, CO

Patty DePooter suffered the ultimate loss on April 20, 1999. The life of her son, Corey, was taken from her in the Columbine library that day. Patty has made it her mission (along with many other Columbine families) to see that the current library be remodeled and relocated. She is on the design committee for construction of the 2 story atrium that will be formed when they tear out the existing library floor, opening up the cafeteria/commons area into this beautiful atrium. They will build a new library somewhere else on the school's campus. Patty and the members of H.O.P.E (Healing of People Everywhere) feel very strongly that present and future students of Columbine should never have to step foot into the scene where so many were traumatized April 20.

Patty is a very special lady, one who makes it a point to connect with those who have reached out to her. On December 25, 1999, participants of the 12 Stops of Christmas were deeply touched by Patty. She and her husband Neal- along with Darrell Scott, (Rachel Scott's father), and Rick and Sue Townsend (Lauren Townsend's father and stepmother), woke up early to greet the 4 trekkers in Columbine's parking lot. At end of their 3500 mile, 9 state tour which raised funds for the new library at Columbine, Patty and her family treated the trekkers to breakfast. But most importantly, Patty has become a dear friend. One who in the midst of her own loss, reaches out to others that have endured similar pain. We look forward to being with Patty again, and love her dearly for opening her heart to us.
