How to Crack a DVD

This is not an article written by me, it was done by Brain Lam of WIRED Magazine. I just think some of you out there would find this info helpful if you own a DVD-ROM.

1) GET SOFTWARE: Google ‘rip DVD” and you’ll turn up tons of underground freeware for decrypting, ripping and encoding. The best: EasyDivX. (see easydivx.does.it)

2) RIP: EasyDivX can now copy the unscrambled video object files onto your hard drive. Make sure you have at least 10 Gbytes available to temporarily store the raw data.

3) DECRYPT: To unscramble a DVD, play it on your PC. EasyDivX grabs the stream. (Doing this will violate the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, but fuck, just ripping a CD does that anyways!)

4) COMPRESS: The software can boil down a 9.4 gig feature length flick down to a 700 Mbyte DivX file, which fits on a CS and is the video swappers top choice.

I have to thanks WIRED for printing this article, I always hated downloading movies and burning them onto 2 discs and this will save you, me and everyone money in the end. And do I feel bad about taking the money away from those poor backdrop artist and scene builders in Hollywood by doing this?

Hell, I wrote this up, posted it online, so what do you think?
