Donnie
Darko
"In
his visions, he is guided by a demonic rabbit named Frank
"
I had heard good things about this movie, so when I saw it
for sale at the mall, I couldn’t resist just buying
it (on DVD). I do this quite a bit, (radiohead -7 Television
Commercials, Radiohead- Meeting People is Easy) but so far
I haven’t really missed. I guess I am just lucky at
buying random DVDs.
If anyone has seen any trailers or advertising in any form
for this movie, they probably haven’t really seen what
it’s about. The trailers I watched on the DVD gave the
impression that it was a horror or suspense film, and in a
way I suppose it is, but at the same time much more. I am
going to attempt to explain this to you.
Actually I am quite confused
about this movie, to tell you the truth. The plot summary
states that it follows in the tradition of Stir of Echoes
and Final destination, but this is not a very accurate description,
so I will give you my own: This movie holds you from the very
beginning right through to the end, and then leaves you thinking
for quite some time.

Donnie Darko is a high school student
living with “Paranoid schizophrenia”. In
his visions, he is guided by a demonic rabbit named
Frank. On a very subtle level, religion, human nature,
and sacrifice play a large roll throughout the entire
film. I would like to tell you more, but you honestly
have to watch it yourself.
Also, time travel is a very large factor, and it is
done quite well, (we all know it can be a very ugly
situation when people attempt to include time travel
in a storyline). Reference to real time travel theory
is made, giving much more depth.

The special features on the DVD were also amazing:
A music video, deleted scenes, time travel theory, a
very funny mini movie called Cunning Visions, and of
course a music video. All these things make the DVD
a much better choice over the standard VHS.
Everyone plays their parts excellent in this movie,
the story and soundtrack are amazing and the ending
forces you to think, something we all need to do more
often, so check it out.
9/10
