June 17th, 2000 - Parks and Recreation Day
Yes indeedy, the Flying Model Guys DO use this field, and NO, we DON'T want it turned into another soccer field or golf course! -

I'd like to thank everybody from all the clubs who showed up to support the use of 60 Acres as a flying model field. It probably helped keep the field from being turned into a soccer field - at least for the rest of this year. Special thanks to the sailplane clubs for organizing it. It looked to me like there were at least 100 people there, with representatives from several sailplane clubs, many of the free-flight clubs, the Flying Aces club, and the model rocketry guys. There was a solid line of participant cars along the whole length of the south end of the field. I especially appreciated the two very young entrepreneurs who showed up with a wheelbarrow full of sodas and ice which they peddled up and down the flight line. It was a great day, a good time was had by all, and hopefully the Parks and Recreation representative who showed up and ran an information booth was impressed enough to let his superiors know that modeling is just as much a family pastime as soccer, and that we deserve at least one small field. And besides - the soccer crowd already has a bunch of fields on the north side of the road! - Michael Morrow
