First off, wasn't that nice of me to try to save you some money. So if you are going to buy it, click above so I can get referral fees to buy my own webspace and get off of GeoCities! Now that I'm done begging, the rest is the review...
Honestly, do you really need my reasoning for this one? It should be pretty obvious without my help, but you're here.
It's the 4th season! C'mon! These were the glory days. Remember when this show used to win awards left and right? Well, this was the peak time for it. Gillian won an Emmy, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild Award for her work in this season. David won a Golden Satellite Award for it. The series won a Peabody, Golden Globe, Television Critics Award, Golden Satellite Award and Saturn Award. These are just the major awards that they won. There were also a bunch of awards for make-up. Don't even get me started on the nominations for everything.
Also, this was the year that The X-Files received its highest ratings ever.
All of these were not just coincidence, they were well deserved. The entire year was full of great episodes and great acting, directing, and whatnot. I'm not going to burden you with why I like just about every episode in this season [and if you've read my reviews of episodes, you'll notice that I'm very scathing], but I am going to tell you about a few that stand out among this excellent season:
Tunguska and Terma, I feel, was the best two-parter ever. Never Again, which showed a different side of Scully, had Jode Foster as the voice of 'Betty' and had a brief appearance. Small Potatoes was my favorite of the humor episodes.
This was definitely the most well-rounded season of them all. Even if you have them all on tape, I think buying the DVDs are very worthwhile. No commercials or late recordings. Plus, you get bonus features and you don't have to worry about your VCR eating a tape [which has happened to me a couple of times, and I seriously wanted to kill it. I had to be reminded that VCRs aren't animated creatures.].
