The Clock

Clock, don't mark the hours,
because I'm going to go crazy
she is leaving for always
when it dawns once again.

On a waiting room of a hospital, Heero is sitting. His eyes look souless as he remember.

Flashback

A doctor walks out of a room. Heero is waiting outside.
"You are Mr. Maxwell's relative?"
"Yes... What happen to Duo?" asked a very impatient Heero.
The doctor avoid Heero's cobalt eyes and return to his notes.
"Young man... I won't lie to you... He's dieying. He got Leucaemia."
Heero was startled. He felt a cold river flowing through his veins.
"What... What do you mean with Leucaemia?" asked Heero, still in shock.
The doctor take a deep breath and turn his eyes.
"Leucaemia is like a Cancer on the blood..." he explain.
But before the Doctor could finish his explanation, Heero too him by the shirt and push him against a wall.
"I know what Leucaemia is..." he growl, and then let go the Doctor " But Duo never showed the symptoms."
The Doctor fix himself, a little shaken by what just had happened.
"I know this is difficult to accept, young man..."
"No!" shouted Heero, and hit the wall. "There must be an error! Duo can't have Leucaemia!... Don't you see? He has always carried good health!"
The Doctor tried to keep a little distance from Heero. He knew Heero was still startled by the new and, by his character, he knew that is he was too close, he might regret it.
"Maybe you never notice it... In this cases, the least and most insignificant symptom counts."
Heero frown and turn his eyes. He couldn't believe what the doctor was saying ... He couldn't believe Duo had Leucaemia... and the he never notice it... After all... They were lovers.
"How advanced is the illness?" asked Heero, with his cold tone faking.
"Final Phase... I can't believe anyone ever notice it."
"God... No!" And again, Heero hit the wall.
"But there is a chance... there..." The Doctor tried to confort Heero.
"I know! I know that there are operations! But Duo has no family! He just got me!... Ans all those operations are bullshit! They are one chance on a million!" exclaim Heero, knowing about the Leucaemia.
"How much time?"
"Less than a month..."
Heero swallow hard. He will have Duo for just weeks... What about all the plans they made... What will happen to him... After all the joy the braided baka brought to his life.
"I'm sorry, boy." The Doctor tried to confort the boy by placing his hand on Heero's shoulder. "I know how you feel... "
Hero slap the Doctor's hand away.
"No... You don't know..."

End of Flashback

Heero's toughts were interrupted by the sound of the door opening. A nurse walk in. Heero quickly look at her. He didn't had to say a word, his eyes express by themselves.
"Mr. Yuy? Follow me please." the nurse asked politely.

There's nothing left but tonight
for us to live our love;
and your tick-tock reminds me
of my incurable pain.

Guided by the nurse, Heero is on his way to Duo's room. As he walks, he feels his heart beats on his head.
The white hallway look so cold and is so silent. The cobalt eyed pilot start having a strange feeling. Everything he wants to do... everything he needs to do, is to have Duo hugging him tightly and telling him that everything was just a dream... that everything is all right. But he knows that that won't happen, because it isn't a dream, but the reality. And that's why, he isn't sure if he wants to see Duo. He isn't sure anymore, about his own control.
This whole contradiction of feelings take Heero to his most treasured moments with Duo. The time they first met. The time they confessed their feelings. Their kiss, their first time, their first fight... Everything seemed to conclude in one thought.
There was that braided pilot, on his black outfit, with a sweet smile. Looking back at Heero so lovingly, and then says... "I love you."
The phrase echoed on Heero's head. So many times Duo had said that same thing to Heero. Heero had told Duo that, but only when the braided boy was deeply sleeping and unable to hear him.
Heero knows that he wants to keep listening to Duo saying how much he loved him and smiling... Heero wanted to keep seeing those violet eyes that look so lovingly at him... and he wanted to tell Duo how much he loved him and how much he wants for him to stay by his side.
Every step he gives, get him close to Duo... But Heero sees as if every step he gave, made the cold silent white hallway larger.
Finally... The nurse stop infront of a room. There's a drum on Heero's head. The nurse open the door and points for Heero to walk in. He did as he was asked.

Clock, delay your journey,
because my life is extinguishing.
She's the star
that illuminates my being
without her love, I'm nothing.

Heero stand, by the door, looking at Duo. He seemed so different. His violet eyes appear to had lost their joy... The smile was gone.
Duo turn and look at Heero. A small smile appear on his face.
"Hey, Hee-chan... Come hear." Duo's voice sounded so weak... unlike that noisy chit-chat thing he was so use to har from the braided baka.
Heero walk to Duo slowly. He never took his eyes off the chestnit haired boy.
"Du...." As his body began to tremble, Heero knew that he was losing his control, and decided to remain quiet.
"Strange. You seem awfully quiet... But I don't find it strange." Duo smile at himself.
Heero was surprised at the way Duo still teased him.
"Duo... " Heero said on a shaky voice.
"It's a shame that I won't be able to go to Disneyland with Quatre and Trowa now... I really..."
"Dou, will you be quiet!" shouted Heero.
Duo turn and look at Heero startled. Tears were showed on his blue eyes.
"Can't you see... That I'm trying to tell you something?"
"Heero..."
Duo take Heero's hands. His hand was cold, but Heero didn't minded it.
"Tell me, Heero... Better tell me now or you'll never have the chance..."
Heero knee by Duo's bed. Still holding Duo's cold hand.
"What am I going to do, Duo?" more tears fall down. Heero's face wasn't a stone anymore. Pain and suffering was reflected on those cobal eyes. "What am I going to do... Without you?"
"Oh... Heero..."
Heero lay his head on Duo's lap.
"You are everything I got... everything I am... You gave my life... a true meaning... Without you... what's left."
Duo struggle to keep himself from crying. He knew that someone had to keep cool there... Besides, he needed to give strengths to Heero.
"No, Heero... Everything is cool... We'll see again."
"Bull shit!... Duo, can't you see that I need you? I want you by my side, forever!... Gosh, Duo, don't die. What reason will I give myself when I have to wake up?... How am I going to release my heart... from such a pain... How the hell will I do to close the hole you'll leave when you die!"
"Stop it, Heero!"
Duo squeeze Heero's hand.
"Can't you see... That it hurts me too to leave you? Can't you see, that I'm fucking scared? You think that this is easy? I'm dieying!... I can't stand the idea of being separated of you... I love you so much." tears came rolling down Duo's cheecks.
And for a moment... There was silence. Total silence.
"Heero?"
"Yes?"
"Will you stay by my side, and take my hand until this is over?"
Heero swallow hard, trying not to cry.
"Don't worry, Duo... I'll stay here... with you." Heero try to smile at Duo. "Why don't you take a nap."
Duo nod and close his eyes. This way, death will come and take him while he sleeps and there will be no pain.
"Heero?"
Heero look at Duo who had his eyes open.
"Yes?"
"Will you kiss my forhead and tell me Good Night so that it seems like I'm just going to sleep like every night?"
"S... Sure." Heero's voice was so shaky and tears made themselves visibles.
Heero kiss Duo's forhead. Tears fall oves Duo's hair.
"Good night, Duo..." Heero kiss Duo one last time on the lips.
Duo's lips were wet and with the taste of tears.
"Good night, Heero." Duo close his eyes.
Heero cover his face with one hand. The sight of Duo sleeping. He looked like and angel... no... Better than that... He looked like Duo... A healthy Duo who was just sleeping, and who would awake the next day and continue his cheerful like, filling Heero's with happiness. Now he understood why Duo wanted to do this.
When Heero was sure that Duo was sleeping, he aproach to his lover's head and whisper at Duo's ear. "Ai shiteru, Duo."
"Ai shiteru... Heero." answer Duo.
Heero was surpsride. Duo was awake. But he didn't said anything and just lay his head on Duo's chest.
That way, with the music of Duo's heart beats, Heero fell sleep.

Stop the time in your hands,
make tonight everlasting,
so that she never goes from me,
so that it never dawns.

A strange sound awoke Heero. It was the sound of the machine that counted Duo's heart beats. A ray of light tiny ray of light hit Heero on the face. He open an eye and remember his lover. He heard the machine, indicating that Duo was dead. Heero turn and look at Duo, he look so peaceful... Almost as if he was just sleping.
"Good morning... Duo." Heero kissed one last time Duo on the lips.
He realize how he was still holding Duo's hand. He then remember that he was finally able to tell Duo that he loved him.
The cobalt eyed boy walk to the door, then turn, and look once more at his koibito.
"We'll see again, Duo... Until then... I'll take you in my heart." Heero then, left the room and the hospital. No one ever realize it, until they walk in Duo's room and saw him dead.

Heero didn't return with the rest of the crew. No one ever saw him again, not even at Duo's funeral. Heero went from place to place, helping people, waiting until the day, he'd catch up with his lover, until then, he kept the sweet image of Duo, on his black outfit, with his sweet smile, and that loving look on his violet eyes.

Note:

Leucauemia is a type of Cancer, but in blood. It can be cured by a part of a body of a close blood relative of yours... If it is on a high phase, is mortal and the chance to save yourself if you get an operation is 1 in a million, without mentioning that the operation cost a lot!

Duo: ... O.O ... Heero! Did you heard that! Lend me your laptop!
Kandy Girl: *ignoring Dou's commentary* I'm open for critics and comments! *turns and looks at Duo who's fighting with Heero because he won't let him his laptop* Animated characters critics are not accepted.
Duo let go Heero's computer making Heero fall to the ground with his laptop.
Duo: *upset* Ooooooh. : (
