Taking up the mantle of the original, late Eel, Edward Lavell entered the ranks of the Maggia as an enforcer, encountering Luke Cage, the Power Man, on several occasions due to his position. As a part of several Maggia enforcement groups Edward went on to encounter the Fantastic Four and the Avengers on occasion, and made his way into the Enforcers to settle a grudge against Mr. Hyde. Impersonating deceased member Snake Marston, Edward murdered Angela Parish, a young woman who Hyde was helping kick a drug addiction. Hyde was framed of the crime, but luckily his legal council happened to be Matt Murdock, aka: Daredevil, who deduced that Hyde was innocent and caught the Eel.
Released from prison, Edward joined the twenty-five member Masters of Evil but was defeated by the Thunderbolts, and soon again by the Avengers during a meeting of Maggia heads in Chicago. Returning to his roots as an enforcer, Edward next worked with mob lawyer turned boss Caesar Cicero, during his planned recovery of the rediscovered lifeline tablet. Once again, Edward was defeated, this time by everyone's favorite wall crawler.
Later, the Eel took part in a Bloodsport match on the island of Madripoor. Eel squared off against Toad, who used his tongue to break Eel's back. It is not known if the Eel survived, or even if this Eel was Edward Lavell.
Powers and Abilities: The Eel has a slick suit that enables him to slide on any surface and makes it hard to hold onto him. He also has gauntlets that release a burst of electrical energy.
