Hammerhead
First appearance: Amazing Spider-Man #113

Years ago, criminal doctor Jonas Harrow found a body beaten half to death and disfigured in an alleyway. Taking the body, Harrow repaired him and replacing his skull with metal. Totally amnesic, the man reentered the world by watching a series of gangster movies, and mimiced the character's speech and behavior. Setting out to become a gangster himself, the man renamed himself Hammerhead and entered the Maggia in New York. Running into problems with Doctor Octopus, who at this time wished to enter the ranks of crimeboss, Hammerhead fought the good doctor on several occasions. Hammerhead also seemed to die following a battle and haunted Ock from beyond the grave. It had only turned out that Hammerhead had been sent into an alternate dimension and he was eventually let back into ours.

Hammerhead continued to rise in the ranks of the Maggia, encountering Spider-Man many times, and along the way seemed to regain memory of his old life. Ironically Hammerhead's old foe Peter Parker found himself having to save Hammerhead's life, when Hammerhead had been set up by rival crimeboss Fortunato, and Peter (who had been following the criminal activities with reporter Ben Urich) flashed his camera to draw the attentions of the would-be killers. Recovered from the attack, Hammerhead went on to work with Spider-Man when New York was threatened by the mad-man known as Crown, but seemed to parish in a violent attack by the Kingpin of crime, who began to wipe-out all other New York crimebosses. Hammerhead survived, but laid low for the next while.

Hammerhead resurfaced when his sister, Antonia, had become cancer stricken, and he sought to recover the long lost pieces of the lifeline tablet, which, years earlier, had been discovered and used to de-age Maggia boss Silvermane. Kidnapping the wife and son of Doctor Curt Connors, Hammerhead developed a serum he would use to cure Antonia's cancer, but upon using it Hammerhead instead used his power to rid Connors of his alter-ego, the Lizard. A second serum had been developed though and Antonia's cancer was cured, and Hammerhead sent off to prison, though he claimed he would be out the next day. With his resources there's no doubt Hammerhead made good on his threat and is once again at large.

Powers and Abilities: Hammerhead has a great deal of power in the New York based Maggia and his skull, made of a metal alloy, is often used as a battering ram against his opponents. Hammerhead also uses a powerful exo-skeleton on occasion.
