Marvel Adventures #2 (March 1997) Macchio Herrera Durruthy
the review: Being a big fan of the Spider-Man animated series, I really liked this issue. It seemed to fit in seamlessly with the animated series in everyway. Not only was there the welcome use of continuity from the cartoon, but the characters where in excellent form, acting as they should in both the cartoon and the ongoing comics. What was also very handy were recaps, making this book very assesible for the first time reader. The only ongoing thread was the intriquing subplot about Venom's missing symbiote, which is just enough to make a casual reader pick up the next book.
The inclusion of Peter quitting for the Daily Globe, something that happened in the actual comics, and the Scorpion actually having a good reason for attacking Jameson were both interesting. When was the last time he had one other than he was mad about an experiment he willingly particpated in? The fact that everything was wrapped up in thirty pages reminded even more of the cartoon.
The artwork is nice, done in the style of the other Spidey cartoon comics, but still keeping it's own flair. It's funny that a series called "Marvel Adventures" would be able to better capture the feel of the Spider-Man animated series better than the comic based on the animated series.
Bottom line: A simple story, but still interesting enough for longtime readers to get into it. **** out of *****
