Amazing Spider-Man #33 v.2 (July 2001)
Straczynski Romita jr. Hanna

Amazing #33 the plot: As the fight between Morlun and Spider-Man begins, our webheaded hero finds himself overwelmed by his newfound foe. Despite his best efforts there's little Spider-Man can do to stop Morlun's quest, and even without his websuit, Morlun is fast on Peter's trail. It's only through a leaky gas main which Morlun causes to explode to stop Spidey in vain, that Spider-Man is able to get away. But when the dust clears, and Morlun stands unscathed, that he notices something wrong about Spider-Man, not that it matters to his overall quest. Spidey meanwhile heads over to Ezekiel's building to learn more about Morlun, but is quickly told by Ezekiel that it's too late. That Spidey's going to die, and it's too late to do anything about that.

the review: Wow. Forget about what I said last month about Straczynski's ideas not being followed up with. This is a great issue. Mind you it's all just a fight between Spidey and Morlun, but the pacing and the build-up so far have made it worth while. Not to mention the excellent artwork by John Romita and Scott Hanna. Aside from the fight though, there were two interesting little nuggets given and the end of the book. The first being that Morlun has begun to think that Spidey may not be the right person he's looking for and that Ezekiel can't help Spidey anymore. Those two tidbits are more than enough to make next month's issue a must read. I would have honestly perferred more build up towards Spidey's fight with Morlun, but I suppose that you can only do so much with a monthly comic book.

Okay then, I know what you're thinking, that this is just a big suck-up review. Well, I did have a few problems with this comic, the first being Peter leaping into action in a half donned Spidey suit in a crowded bar. Don't you think someone might realize the guy in the Spidey boots is fighting the same guy Spider-Man has been for the last couple of hours? That really bugged me, I mean isn't Peter a little recognizable, being a top super-hero photographer, and the husband of a famous super-model? And was it really necessary to kick in Ezekiel's office door? These are all minor problems though. The book itself more than made up for any little problems.

So, in conclusion, Amazing Spider-Man #33 gets ***1/2 out of ***** for being a solid read and some nice cliffhanger bits.
